The PURCHASING MANAGER is responsible for procuring the lowest possible bids from vendors without comprising quality and to implement controls for receiving, storing and distributing materials, merchandise and supplies. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, include but not limited to:

•  To hire, train, supervise, develop, and discipline line level employees within the department.


• To be responsible for the security and economic well-being of the Hotel storeroom.


• To closely monitor checkbooks and follow monthly budgeted expenditures against purchases.


• To closely monitor food and beverage cost; to update and monitor prices and price changes; to assist in preparation of pricing for seasonal menus.


• To comply with Stuart Sherman procurement program; to prepare for and participate in annual audit as needed.


• To prepare for and execute monthly food & beverage inventory counts by collaborating with Accounting and Food & Beverage management, timely and accurately including updating pricing on Inventory Sheets as needed.


• To communicate with Chefs, Stewarding and F&B management daily regarding BEOs, as well regular and special ordering to timely and accurately meet all departments' needs.


• To create Purchase Orders as necessary and log them into the company’s checkbooks to balance with the General Ledgers.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:  Bachelor's degree in Hotel or Business Management, or equivalent experience, required. English fluency required. Must have minimum five years experience in purchasing, including one year in supervisory position. Computer experience required, including extensive knowledge of Excel. Familiar with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances. Valid California driver's license required Proof of personal automobile insurance coverage required.

SKILLS AND APTITUDES:  Demonstrated ability to train staff and ensure luxury resort customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Detail oriented.  Organized and efficient.  Safety-minded. High quality standards for production and service. Good team player. Customer service focus. Ability to effectively manage staff to maintain a high level of morale and productivity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands/walks approximately 50% of shift. Sits at desk or in meetings approximately 50% of shift. Uses computer approximately 20% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. over short distances. Must be able to work well under pressure. Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours. Frequent use of stairs, daily. Moderate use of phone, daily. Requires extensive reading and computation.
