Position: Trainer - Forklift Operator/Cargo Handler

Job Description:

The Trainer is responsible for the training and evaluation of cargo handler and forklift operators, to ensure employee possess the basic knowledge of dock and forklift operations. This individual will also be responsible for mentoring and helping the employee to build relationships with operation leaders, supervisors, and terminal human resource team. The Trainer will also provide coaching and mentoring to leadership regarding effective employee interactions and employee engagement/retention strategies. The key responsibilities of this function are to ensure new employees possess the skills to be safe, productive and successful.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Onboard and train new employees on Forward Air policies and procedures
  • Trainer will assess employee skills, talents, performance and productivity with advice for improvement
  • Unload and break down freight onto good wood pallets, in compliance with the SOP and at a pace that meets or exceeds productivity goals and standards
  • Sort and organize freight by PO# and SKU#
  • May be required to break down freight
  • May include operating various types of material handling equipment
  • May include sorting, repacking and labeling, pallet repair, and other duties
  • Communicate with team members, trainers, supervisors & management to ensure all training needs are met
  • Order training supplies and materials to enhance instruction & Training program
  • Work with terminal manager, operations team and human resource team to facilitate retention and engagement
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 5 years previous warehouse and forklift experience preferred
  • Trainer should be able to assess employee skills, talents, performance and productivity with advice for improvement
  • Desire for a long-term career with an industry leading company
  • Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast paced environment
  • The ability to work in a physically demanding warehouse environment - continuously lifting and moving up to 50lbs
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

  • Ideal candidate will possess a "can do\" attitude with a "will do\" work ethic
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills, and strong problem solving skills
  • Transportation industry knowledge and experience is a plus
