Job Description
Seeking a highly motivated full-time research assistant to work in a dynamic and fast-paced translational research laboratory.
Main roles include obtaining and handling brain tumor specimens directly from the operating room during craniotomies, preparing clinical specimens for metabolomics analysis, correlating patient outcomes to brain tumor metabolomics data, clinical and scientific data entry, and laboratory benchtop work.
This position is ideal for a candidate with an interest in pursuing a PhD or MD degree in the future.
The candidate will receive ample scientific and clinical mentorship by two UT Southwestern faculty members.
Candidates who are motivated to do so can work towards being an author on scientific publications.
Interviews will be held on a rolling basis with the goal of hiring a qualified candidate by the end of the year.
Experience and Education
Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology, or relevant field and one (1) year experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
High school graduation including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc., and three (3) years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job Duties
Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records resulting data in accordance with established methods.
Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned. **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
