Summary of Position: Head of Global and Executive Compensation Strategy

Reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer, the Head of Global and Executive Compensation Strategy will be responsible for leadership in executive compensation and global compensation strategy, philosophy, process, policies, program design, implementation, change management, communication and administration of Zoetis compensation plans and processes for all Zoetis colleagues worldwide, including the Zoetis Executive Team.

This individual will have direct interaction with the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors and will be responsible for setting the agenda and preparing the materials for, as well as participating in, each Compensation Committee meeting. In addition, working with Corporate Governance and Finance, this role will be a key participant in the preparation of all required SEC filings, including the Compensation Disclosure and Analysis (CD&A) to the Proxy Statement.

As the most senior member of the compensation team, this role will provide the strategic direction and execution for compensation across the enterprise and will create and manage global compensation and infrastructure to support the attraction, retention and motivation of Zoetis colleagues enterprise-wide; develop and continuously improve short-term and long-term incentives; ensure compensation is aligned and supported by our HR systems and most importantly, our compensation strategy, programs and initiatives best fit and deliver on our organizational strategy, culture, priorities and business model.

Stakeholder management is a key component of this role and, as a result, this individual will partner and collaborate, as appropriate, with the Zoetis Executive Team, other senior leaders and HR Leads to ensure that all programs support the organization's strategic objectives, are competitive, cost effective and sustainable, understandable, drive desired outcomes and are in compliance with legal requirements around the globe.

Core Responsibilities & Accountabilities:


  • Lead the Global and Executive Compensation strategy around design, , philosophy, programs, policies and initiatives that competitively position Zoetis globally in the attraction and retention of colleagues, and are aligned with Zoetis strategy, priorities, business model and culture.

  • Be the subject-matter expert on all matters related to executive compensation including long-term incentives, equity plans, trends in executive compensation, deferred compensation, Board compensation, etc. Be recognized as the "go to" person for all compensation issues.

  • Design executive and colleague specific compensation plans to include competitive short- and long-term incentive plans for executives, senior leaders, managers and colleagues, as appropriate.

  • Partner with finance and legal organizations on SEC-related matters, including proxy development and preparation of materials, and participation in, the Compensation Committee of the Board.

  • Keep current with compensation trends around the globe, conduct benchmarking, understand the local market dynamics, and consult with leadership to make recommendations to ensure the strategic alignment of compensation programs to global and local strategic direction.

  • Lead annual compensation planning process to ensure successful delivery, clear understanding, competitiveness and alignment with the Zoetis compensation philosophy and the performance management process.

  • Develop programs to communicate and educate HR, leaders, managers and colleagues on Compensation programs to reinforce the organization's culture and compensation principles.

  • Partner with Zoetis leadership and HR to ensure coordination, alignment and proactive compensation issues management.

  • Understand our HR systems and ensure that our compensation plans are easy to administer and execute within these systems.

  • Ensure Zoetis' compensation plans comply with legal and other regulations and manage processes and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.

  • Proactively manage relevant vendors, auditors, and consultants.

Qualifications & Skills Requirements:


  • A minimum of 15+ years of with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role and company-wide design, management and leadership of global and executive compensation strategies, plans, and initiatives.

  • Demonstrated track record of working successfully with Compensation Committees, managing stakeholders across a complex, global organization, in building, leading and managing a successful Compensation function, designing and developing compensation strategies and plans in a public company environment, to include: executive compensation, pay-for-performance, short- term incentive planning, long-term equity pay programs, deferred compensation programs, and other compensation vehicles.


  • Knowledge of leading practices and external trends in compensation and HR systems with the ability and willingness to dive deep and roll up one's sleeves.

  • Ability to interact easily across all levels within the organization; tactful, mature, flexible. High level of collaboration and influencing skills. Executive maturity. Strong planning, organization, delegation and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing productive relationships with senior leadership, HR leaders, and line managers across the business. Self-starter with a proactive and inquisitive nature who can anticipate and preempt problems.

  • Ability to manage and execute changes in Compensation on a global basis.

  • Preferably have experience with business transactions, including initial public offerings, spin offs/split offs, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, etc., and governance-related matters including Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC regulations and other regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent financial / business acumen, analytical abilities combined with a clear focus on thoroughness, accuracy and quality.

  • Strong strategy development and operational execution capabilities.

  • Previous experience leading, managing and building teams in a fasted paced dynamic environment. High energy and drive to create an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills

  • Bachelors degree required/MBA/JD/advanced degree preferred
