Job Description:

The majority of our roles will continue working from home through September. Once campus restrictions begin easing in October, we will continue to encourage employees to take a virtual-first approach to their work when possible. As long as job responsibilities are not impacted, being in the office full-time will not be necessary or expected. Job Description

As Managing Actuary, Medical Economics, you will lead a team of actuaries accountable for understanding emerging medical and pharmacy expense trends. You will develop and maintain tools, processes and reports to identify timely and actionable trend insights, you will support our Healthcare division through evaluation of cost management programs, and you will support our Finance division through development of trend forecasts.


  • Lead and maintain a high-performing team with an emphasis on technical and professional development

  • Lead staff through completion of technical projects, ensuring timeliness, compliance, and quality of work

  • Proactive and strategic thought leadership of ways to improve processes, reduce risks, and meet department and enterprise objectives to achieve profitable growth and/or improve value, quality, and access for Blue Cross NC customers

  • Achieve segment financial targets and provide concise explanations of results and variances to expectations; act as a financial steward for the company

  • Communicate effectively with all levels and divisions within the organization, including Enterprise and Divisional Leadership Teams

  • Manage external partnerships with vendors, auditors, regulators, and health care providers, including effective negotiation of contracts and/or rates

  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with internal partners through business expertise and exceptional support; act as a strategic advisor

  • Meet continuing education standards required for job function, thought leadership and maintenance of actuarial credentials

Hiring Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and minimum of 5 years of relevant actuarial experience

  • Or, Associate of the Society of Actuaries and minimum of 10 years of relevant actuarial experience

  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
