Under general supervision, assists the Payroll Manager in leading the biweekly payroll process, including assisting in finalizing payroll for approval, generating and building payroll reports for audit/close, accounting for leave usage/balances, and verifying tax deposits and balancing to 941s; conducts year-end W2 processes; and creates and maintains department training documents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leads in processing biweekly payrolls, award/bonus disbursements, and vacation donations, and audits payroll check registers.
Verifies unapproved timesheets and over-80-hour reports, working with supervisors to ensure accurate time entry and timely approvals prior to processing payroll.
Audits employee timesheets to verify hours worked and supervisor approval, working with employees/supervisors to obtain missing information as needed.
Ensures updated data/information is properly communicated to third-party payroll vendor.
Ensures all necessary payroll data is added to/corrected in/removed from payroll systems.
Finalizes bi-weekly payroll runs and prepares payroll for approvals.
Accounts for B&B leave and all SCS donated leave.
Generates variety of payroll reports, including special reports requested by non-Payroll departments/managers.
Builds ad hoc reports as needed in payroll systems.
Creates and maintains spreadsheets for various payroll calculations, accounting, and tracking.
Verifies payroll tax deposits and balance to 941s.
Leads in W2 processing.
Assists in payroll general ledger accounts reconciliations.
Assists in implementation of all payroll systems.
Assists in maintaining employee files related to all payroll processes and documentation.
Assists as needed in developing new payroll office procedures and process improvements.
Creates training documents for all payroll department processes.
Maintains the payroll folder on company shared drive.
Performs as needed other general administrative duties such as typing, filing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing to assist the Payroll Manager.

EDUCATION
Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Over six and up to eight years' progressive payroll experience.
General accounting knowledge, including knowledge of payroll accounting.
Intermediate knowledge of payroll tax and wage/hour statutes and regulations.
Computer literacy, including intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Excel.
Ability to work well with all personality types and under deadline pressures.
Good communication skills.

Position has no unusual physical demands but may require lifting objects weighing up to ten pounds.
Typical office environment.
Occasional minor discomforts from continual exposure to video display terminals.
