Position Description


The Customer Solutions Manager (CSM), HID Development Northeast is responsible for meeting the needs of the expanding DNA Forensics segment of our Human Identification (HID) market, and also QIAGEN's sample collection portfolio outside of the HID market. The position will enhance customer satisfaction and build customer relationships while selling proprietary/advanced technology products and services in the defined area. Additionally, the Customer Solutions Manager will offer proven knowledge in the specialized HID market segment, with strong knowledge of Forensic workflows and related statistical and technical analysis, including extraction and assay technologies and automation.


The Customer Solutions Manager is considered within QIAGEN's organization as a key knowledge holder, contributes to the product development process and assists in the integration of new/acquired technology. He or she should be comfortable leading and working in teams, experienced at project management and successful selling at all customer levels. The Customer Solutions Manager position works directly with a dedicated HID account management team as a field based HID specialist, and reports into the Associate Director of HID Sales for North America.


Although opportunities to work outside of a specific region arise, the position focus is currently in QIAGEN HID's Northeast region.


- Strategy: Implement QIAGEN's corporate strategy for penetration of the HID customer base. Capture defined key accounts and execute pricing strategy to maintain existing business and develop organic business. Disseminate global strategy to develop regional objectives and tactical plans.


- Sales Revenues / Budgets: Meet/Exceed/Monitor sales targets. Increase sales of QIAGEN products by managing all sales functions (i.e., consumables/specialists/instrumentation) and developing tactical plans to maximize revenues. Must be comfortable working across internal business functions, i.e. Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Technical, Supply Chain and more.


- Planning / Forecasting: Responsible for the development/agreement and monitoring of annual sales targets, key performance indictors and revenue forecasts. Forecast within accuracy guidelines utilizing Salesforce.com. Perform pre-call planning and/or coordinating with sales team for increased sales effectiveness.


- Business / Markets: Drive and initiate development of new business opportunities. Increase number of strategic partnerships. Enhance customer satisfaction and increase our competitive advantage while building trust and relationships with customers. Maintain and develop strong relationships with key customers/opinion leaders/references.


- Development: Coach and collaborate with less experienced peers so that they have the direction, skills and tools to achieve targets.


- Communication: Organize meetings, communication channels to ensure effective communication across business units. Involve and support sales team members to achieve mutual company goals and financial objectives. Use Salesforce.com database daily for input and output of customer information to increase sales effectiveness. Maintain and develop relationships with key customers. Maintain open and reoccurring communication with your manager and additional business/segment teams.



Position Requirements


- Individual with a degree in the Life Science area. Advanced degree and/or MS or higher in Forensic Sciences desirable.


- Proven and demonstrated knowledge of Human Identity/Forensics with 5-7 years of experience.


- 5+ years of past lab experience required. Should be able to guide customers and troubleshoot through the full HID workflow.


- Previous Sales experience desirable.


- NGS/MPS experience or knowledge preferred.


- Meet/Exceed/Monitor sales targets through self- directed, strategic solutions based approach to territory management. Experience in complex sales.


- Create and develop strategy for the Human ID market.


- Knowledge development through key opinion leader management, integrations into strategy plans.


- Able to create and develop resolution to complex problems while meeting objectives. Work is accomplished in a proactive manner and independence is encouraged.


- Routinely contributes to and leads teams, with experience in project management.


- Willingness and ability to take on additional challenging tasks/project responsibilities assigned by manager, business team, or others.


- Knowledge, experiences and relationships within some of the following networks is preferred (e.g.): ASCLD, SWGDAM, AAFS and Regional AFS, NIST and FBI


- Should have a broad understanding of and ability to sell across QIAGEN's automation portfolio and value chain including experience with extraction, liquid handling assay setup and qPCR. Should also have and will maintain knowledge of competitive technology and platforms including qPCR, PCR and CE.


- Demonstrate ability to identify and explore new market opportunities for QIAGEN with information gathered via market assessment. Should be able to manage 10-15 key opinion leaders, approx. 5 KOLs per focus market segment.


- Able to interact with/educate customers at both higher (V.P./C.O.O.) and lower (lab tech) skill levels. Should be comfortable giving a technical seminar, oral presentation and/or poster.



Personal Requirements


- Familiarity/use of Salesforce.com or other CRM system highly preferred.


- Willingness to travel up to 60%.


- Territory: Northeast and Eastern Canada (Ontario and Quebec)
