Summary:
The School Counselor is responsible for providing students with social, emotional and behavioral counseling in a K-8 school setting. The School Counselor is responsible for leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to implement a preventative, proactive school counseling program.
Responsibilities:

Provides a range of psychological services including class, group, and individual counseling.
Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the personal, socioemotional, and academic needs of students.
Assists students in removing barriers to learning and developing skills and behaviors critical for academic achievement.
Assesses students' abilities, interests, and achievements to help them make decisions about their future.
Provides professional support to students (individually or in small group setting) during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding student success to enable successful outcomes.
Recognizes and responds to students' mental health needs and assists students and families with seeking resources.
Shares strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.
Supports a balanced approach in supporting students' social and emotional needs while continuing to support the school's Character Counts program and disciplinary processes in place to increase success rates of students with personal challenges enabling a conducive learning environment for all students.
Develops and facilitates Professional Development (PD) sessions pertaining to increasing socioemotional awareness and behavioral support to enable student academic achievement.
Contributes to the development of social-behavioral elements of the IEP process.
When applicable, participates in leadership team meetings to provide updates about important relevant topics/issues.
Identifies, assesses, and responds appropriately to students in crisis including notification of the leadership team.
Updates and maintains confidential records of students.
Attends all scheduled meetings and in-service trainings throughout the year.
Attends major school-sponsored activities, which take place on or off campus, that have direct benefit to the students and/or parents such as school assemblies, productions, award ceremonies, and others as may be made known throughout the year.
Performs other duties as assigned.
