JOB DESCRIPTION:


  • Manages the overall day-to-day operations for care of patients within the clinical service lines.

  • Participates in developing departmental goals and objectives.

  • Meets with other staff members to discuss progress and future courses of action.

  • Supervises staff and manages employee performance.

  • Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees on equipment and patient care procedures, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Monitors workflow.

  • In conjunction with interdisciplinary care teams and Emory University System of Healthcare assesses patient needs and resolves patient issues.

  • Identifies needs and collaborates with Administrative Cardiology Services to complete special and ongoing projects.

  • Administers departmental policies and procedures for compliance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of standards of patient care.

  • Monitors quality measurement activities.

  • Evaluates and implements strategies for streamlining care delivery system and cost containment/process improvement.

  • Functions independently as the charge person for area to ensure provision of quality care.

  • Ensures provision of quality of care. Projects staffing requirements, interviews and hires employees to fill vacant positions and to ensure that the workload is handled effectively.

  • Evaluates staff performance in written and oral forms.

  • Resolves issues that arise during operations.

  • Plans, administers, and monitors capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets by reviewing prior budget expenses, regularly reviewing year to date expenses, investigating variances, and taking corrective action to control expenses at approved levels. Ensures new operations, innovations and improvements are properly funded.

  • Identifies and maximizes current and potential sources of revenues to increase hospital income.

  • Develops criteria for vendor bidding process; recommends products and services based on criteria.

  • Acts as expert resource for standards of care and protocols, including provision, demonstration, and mentoring of direct care to patients.

  • Some individuals in this position may be responsible for educating patient and family on the care plan for the patient; teaching them to perform specific procedures; documenting activities related to full understanding of the patient's continued care.

  • May be responsible for communicating patients' needs and responses; informing patient's family and patient care team of the patient's progress.

  • When required, explaining the rationale or principles behind the physiology or consequences of treatments. Maintains personal professional growth and development by attending workshops, seminars, conferences and reading professional literature.

  • Actively participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Demonstrates current evidenced based practice and disseminates information.

  • Ensures compliance with educational requirements through scheduling, planning and support. : Maintains records and files on staff, inventory, equipment, or other items.

  • Collects/submits monthly statistical data as required. Some individuals in this position may be responsible for ensuring that regulatory data (i.e INTERMACS, UNOS, TJC and other related systems)are current.

  • May be required to document all aspects of patient care to show patient's progress or any change in the patient's condition in accordance with established procedures.

  • May perform clinical practitioner duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business, or Hospital Administration preferred.

  • Four years nursing experience required, with at least two in cardiology nursing and at least one year of leadership experience and one year in ICU/CCU preferred.

  • Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.

  • Certification in specialty preferred.

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
