Software Engineer III - VA/OR Engineering

We are searching for an experienced Software Engineer III - VA/OR Engineering at our Newport, RI location.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Virginia / Ohio Replacement Business Area is seeking aSoftware Engineer specializing in digital signal processing for its Middletown,RI location. This position will support the Weapons Analysis Facility at theNaval Undersea Warfare Center.

The successful candidate would be expected to:


  • Develop, analyze, and optimize signal processing applications written in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, MATLAB, Java, Python

  • Be fully comfortable with the time and frequency domains of digital signal processing. This at least includes computing spectrums, signal envelopes, spectrograms, windowing, filtering, amplitude and frequency modulation, and baseband computations.

  • Analyze outputs of signal processing routines to provide insights into validity of acoustic phenomena. This can include spectral, times series, statistical, and noise analysis.

  • Operate daily in a classified lab of Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations

  • Participate in an established Agile/Scrum development process, using an Atlassian-based suite of tools including JIRA, Bamboo, Bitbucket, and Confluence

Eligibility Requirements:

Education: A Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Software Engineering is the minimum education requirement for this position. The ideal candidate would hold a Master’s Degree specializing in Signal processing
Experience: 3+ years of related experience. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of five years of experience with signal processing algorithms, have implemented several array processing beamformers using Dominant Mode Rejection and Basis pursuit denoising (BPDN) techniques for passive and active sonar on the MK48 heavy-weight torpedo, implemented algorithm updates to software packages utilizing extended Kalman filtering on the MK48 heavy-weight torpedo, optimized MATLAB code written in C++, implemented several acoustic modeling and simulation wave models using ray tracing, normal modes, and finite difference mesh methods, implemented demonstration of Cubature Kalman Filter applicable to passive tracking on the MK48 heavy-weight torpedo, familiarization with Optimization of software using Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) and NEON Intrinsics, experience with Parallelization of software using OpenCL.
