Job Description:

The position is for a one-year appointment only.

The Interim Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences acts as an important liaison between the Dean, Faculty, Advising Office, Staff, and Students. The work focuses on both academic and student affairs. The position requires collaboration between a broad range of constituents, including university and regional organizations, such as the community colleges and local ISDs.

DUTIES


  1. Assists the Dean with the management of administrative functions of departments and programs of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences

  2. Serves as a liaison between faculty, chairs, program coordinators, advising office, Assistant Dean, and Dean in key curricular areas, including program assessment, development, and scheduling

  3. Review and adjudicate student appeals, including those dealing with grades, academic dishonesty, late registration, retroactive credit, articulation of credit, and the like

  4. Chair the CHSS curriculum committee and lead its initiatives, including the support of online curriculum development and study abroad initiatives

  5. Serves on the Leadership Team in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences

  6. Serves on the Associate Dean's Council and as an active member of the UHD community

  7. Teach one course each long semester in the candidate's home program

  8. Performs additional duties requested by the Dean and represents the office of the Dean (such as attending meetings and events and signing documents) in his/her absence

  9. Coordinate the annual update of catalogs and CHSS Graduate Handbook

  10. Coordinates College presence and represents College at recruiting and advising events

  11. Exercises budget signature and supervisory authority in the Dean's absence

  1. Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Reports:  Full-Time Employees

Delegation of Work:  Regularly assigns work to subordinate(s)

Supervision Given:  Prior experience in administration.  Demonstrated ability to introduce new impactful initiatives and bring these to completion.  Demonstrated experience with enrollment management, Campus Solutions, and university policy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:


  1. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

Skills:


  1. Candidates must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:


  1. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location:  Works in an office environment

Physical Demands:  None

Required Education: Doctoral degree or Terminal Degree in Humanities or Social Sciences.  Must be a tenured faculty in CHSS.

Required Experience:  Minimum of three (3) years of job-related experience
