Job Description:

Central Ohio Primary Care is seeking a full time Paralegal for our central business office in Westerville, OH. The Paralegal is responsible for legal process management and providing functional support to the Legal Department to ensure delivery of quality patient care and services to promote a legally compliant environment at Central Ohio Primary Care. This position provides guidance and assistance to physicians, staff, and other stakeholders, internally and externally, related to general and healthcare legal matters affecting the company. Duties include managing insurance on behalf of the organization including professional liability, responding to subpoenas, preparation of employment contracts, preparing agreements for practice acquisitions and managing due diligence regarding the same, facilitating immigration process for physicians and staff, managing licensing issues for individuals and organization, general litigation support, and advising on health law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Utilize authorized drafts to prepare and review basic legal agreements including HIPAA business associate agreements, employment agreements, leases, confidentiality agreements and consulting agreements.

• Prepare practice acquisition agreements and help manage practice acquisition process, including due diligence.

• Respond to requests or questions related to contract content.

• Manage and maintain clause and template libraries. Act as a resource for questions or issues related to library management.

• Manage and support immigration process for staff and physicians.

• Research and review statutory, regulatory, and case law utilizing computerized research capabilities.

• Assist with general management of records, compliance requirements, insurance policies, litigation support and various required filings.

• Take minutes for various committee meetings.

• Assist with review and drafting of policies, procedures, and legal correspondence.

• Support and participate in the continuous assessment and improvement of legal services provided.

• Responsible for coordinating, managing and supporting litigation and legal projects for COPC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Licensures & Certifications 

Required: Bachelor’s degree 

Required: Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved institution 

Preferred: A minimum of eight years of paralegal experience in a healthcare setting or an executive or law office setting 

Preferred: Health care and litigation experience 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated skills and significant experience in advising clients, legal research and analysis, oral and written advocacy, and creative problem solving.

• Applicants should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously for a varied group of clients, the desire to work in a fast-paced and collaborative legal office, and a good sense of humor.

• Analytical, critical thinker with regards to contracts; strong communication and organizational skills; exercises sound judgment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft application suite, especially with MS Word and MS Excel. Experience with implementation and use of a contracts management database.

• Keen attention to detail and excellent analytical ability.
