Terra Services works in both public and private markets that include: Highway, Bridge, City and County Streets, Airports, Energy and Development in the upper Midwest.

Position Overview

Union Position that includes health and retirement benefits.

 

Terra, a CRH Company, is an erosion control and restoration company. Terra works in both public and private markets that include: Highway, City and County Streets, Airports, Energy and Development. Terra plays a vital role in keeping projects compliant with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.

 

Responsible for working with a team of laborers and operators to install erosion control and restoration measures. This is an entry-level union position. We will train the right candidate who is interested in the work.

 

We are willing to train people on the job who have a good learning attitude.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.


• Installing silt fence, including pounding steel or wood posts


• Stapling erosion control blanket which includes repeated staple gun movements


• Seedbed preparation, hand raking, shoveling, removing debris


• Assisting with hydroseeding installation


• Fertilizer and seed applications using a hand spreader


• Help load and unload vehicles daily


• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.  Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.


• Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. 


• Other duties as may be assigned. 
   

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

        Education/Experience

• Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

• Ability to follow instructions provided by crew leaders and superintendents


• Positive attitude, and can work on a team


• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly


• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Erosion control and seeding experience preffered, but not required.


• Valid drivers license
   
  Work Requirements
  

• Must be 18 years in age or older.


• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.


• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.


• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.


• Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.


• Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.


• Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

• The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.


• The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.   


• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.


• Must be able to exert up to 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally.

 

Work Environment

• Able to work in all weather conditions.


• While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.


• The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.


• The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but is typically moderate.
