Overview

The Safety Manager is responsible for the proactively and strategically developing, coordinating and directing company-wide safety compliance programs, systems and initiatives, to include safety training, incident investigation/follow-up, incident prevention programs, safety awareness programs, worker's compensation claims management, and minimizing property loss exposure. The position is pertaining to recurring maintenance and minor repair of fuel facilities for the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities

      Develop, implement and manage safety compliance programs and procedures (and performs related training) which includes Hazard Communication (MSDS management), Lockout/Tag-out, Blood borne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation (noise monitoring, hearing tests), Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space Entry, Laboratory Safety, Powered Industrial Vehicles, First Aid & CPR, Electrical Work-related Practices, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection, Machine Guarding, Overhead Lifting Equipment and Emergency Planning.
    • Manages activities related to worker's compensation claims management which includes maintaining OSHA recordkeeping and other regulated filing requirements, litigation management, employee follow-up, incident investigations with supervisors to correct safety hazards, facility tracking of incident and injury data to report trends and corrective actions and administering the employee return-to-work program.

    • Review/approve Activity Hazard Analysis for projects.

    • Manages all interaction with regulatory agencies including USACE, OSHA, Emergency Services, etc

    • Coordinates and manages activities of outside consultants that may be required to ensure safety and environmental compliance (CPE certified plans, air emissions, etc.).

    • Chairs safety committee, including follow-up on open issues.

    • Develops and manages safety/incident prevention programs including safety awareness programs.

    • Assists with the development of personnel/safety policies and procedures.

    This position may have supervisory responsibilities. If supervisory responsibilities exist, and the individual must mentor subordinate staff.



    QUALIFICATIONS


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


    Safety Manger shall have a minimum of 5 years safety experience with at least 5 years of experience in fuels related maintenance and repair. Experience with Industrial Hygiene would be beneficial



    LANGUAGE SKILLS


    Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, contracts, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.



    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


    Certain openings may require a professional license or certifications depending on the client and project requirements.



    SOFTWARE/TECHNICAL SKILLS


    Proficient in MS Office and MS Project and/or other software programs applicable to job type.



    PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the individual to use the computer working at a desk in either an office or cubicle; must be able to talk and hear, reach with hands and arms, lift up to 10 pounds, stand, sit and walk.



    WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical noise level is moderate, business office with computers, printers and light traffic. Occasional field work at construction and client sites may require employee to be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, electrical and mechanical parts. Employees will wear hard hats, steel toed boots and other appropriate safety equipment as needed.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS


    Routine attendance at meetings and other off-site events requires the ability to provide reliable transportation. Position may require occasional travel to domestic or foreign locations. Must maintain a current, valid driver's license and proof of insurance. Employee must be able to travel freely on a passport or other official document. Access to federal installations or other secure facilities will require security badges and employee must be able to obtain basic security clearances.
