Amerisure is currently recruiting for a Senior Technical Environmental Mass Tort Claims Specialist that has flexibility to sit remotely. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set. 

Summary Statement

Manages a portfolio of asbestos, toxic and other mass tort claims to ensure delivery of superior claims outcomes.  Concludes claims based on proper analysis of coverage, including proper risk transfer, and allocation theory and the developed facts of loss.  Promotes the success of the organization through development of relationships with agencies and policy holders.

Essential Tasks/Major Duties


  • Directly handle the assigned portfolio of high severity, specialized, complex and unique claims.

  • Investigate, evaluate, make coverage determinations and formulate appropriate disposition strategies to mitigate and resolve losses in the best interest of the policy holder, agency and organization including negotiation of cost share agreements with other insurers and/or policy holders.

  • Provides proper and timely reporting and data support to Finance to maximize reinsurance recoveries. 

  • Establish and maintain proper reserves for each claim to accurately reflect the financial exposure. 

  • Provide direction and strategize with counsel to handle litigated claims in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Collaborate and support internal business partners including actuarial, reinsurance and underwriting, as well as external customers including insureds, agents and reinsurers as required.

  • Execute effective claims and reinsurance processes and guidelines for asbestos, environmental toxic tort, and other mass tort claims.

  • Assist in the development of strategies for disposition of Amerisure’s asbestos, toxic and other mass tort portfolio.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

  • Juris doctorate preferred

  • 7 years environmental toxic tort, asbestos, and/or other mass tort claims experience, or related insurance coverage matters.

  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers.

  • Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.

  • Proven negotiations skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%
