ERM is looking for an experienced, motivated, detail-oriented Staff Civil Engineer to join our growing team in Charleston, WV.  Working under the direction of project managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on interesting site investigation, civil engineering, water resource, geotechnical and related projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic area and other US locations.  You may also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, covering the full spectrum of ERM’s services on a global level.

Representative responsibilities under the guidance of more experienced staff may include;

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Participate in the design of erosion and sedimentation controls, stormwater management systems, site grading and associated engineering.

  • Participate in the design of remediation oriented projects including contaminated site restoration/management techniques, groundwater and surface water treatment, collection trench and extraction systems and associated engineering.

  • Participate in solid waste and coal combustion residual landfill and waste containment/closure design,

  • Design of secondary containment systems and above ground storage tank registration.

  • Geotechnical related exploration, analysis and associated design.

  • Evaluate field data; perform calculations; assist in preparation of engineering reports, cost estimates, and schedules; and develop progress-tracking reports.

  • Conduct field work, including sampling, construction oversight, and permit compliance inspections.

  • Interact with scientists in the site investigation, risk management, and planning disciplines as part of an integrated team as well as engineers in design and construction projects.

  • Assist in preparation of environmental compliance plans, permits, and reports for spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater.

  • Assist in preparing environmental permit applications in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents and team members.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • BS in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering or related degree.  Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Candidates will ideally have 2+ years work experience or graduate degree with related internship experience.  Entry level to 5+ years experience will be considered.

  • Experience with AutoCAD/GIS a plus.

  • Experience in site/civil land development design a plus.

  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling calculations a plus. 

  • Field work experience and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Local candidates preferred.

  • Must be comfortable with remote working.
