System Administrator 3 Job Summary

Location: Westfield Center, OH Home Office or remote work within Westfield's operating territory

Salary Range: 89,729 - 116,647

The System Administrator 3, working under minimal supervision, serves as the hands-on technical resource responsible for the support, maintenance, administration and process improvement of the application for which they are responsible, which includes both Windows and Linux platforms. Implements changes, resolves incidents and satisfies service requests for systems and services they manage. Responsible for software recommendations; architecting, designing, planning and installing systems in support of team initiatives and enterprise projects. Maintains asset strategy and currency plans for multiple key systems.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)


  1. Under minimal supervision, responsible for the support, maintenance, administration and process improvement of the BI software applications which include both Windows and Linux platforms.

  2. Designs, installs, configures, administers, and supports applications per business requirements and per project team requirements. Also performs systems integration testing of application(s), and related utilities.

  3. Develops and maintains PowerShell or BASH scripts to help maintain and support complex system integrations in Windows or Linux.

  4. Installs, configures, administers and supports applications per the requirements of the business and project teams in both Windows and Linux environments.

  5. Researches, evaluates and recommends management software solutions to meet Business, Project and operational needs with consideration for financial impacts to the organization.

  6. Architects, designs and implements processes and procedures to backup and restore data and systems to meet operational, business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.

  7. Monitors and administers applications as necessary to meet SLAs as agreed

  8. Proactively monitors system capacity and performance to meet availability SLA, decrease incidents and plan system currency and capacity lifecycle.

  9. Responsible for 2nd and 3rd level technology support and meets the defined SLA of assigned Customer Service Tickets. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for various Windows and/or Linux technologies and resolves ITSM Problem tickets.

  10. Implements system and data security, including controls and logging to comply with the requirements specified in the Westfield Information Security Policies.

  11. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned and applies in a work environment.

  12. Manages and determines system currency lifecycle and maintains current Asset Plans. This includes planning tactical and strategic software upgrades and patching of systems as well as forecasting and planning for capacity demand.

  13. Provides knowledge and expertise to other teams. Leads other technicians in a project management capacity supervising technical implementations.

  14. Identifies and implements process improvement and optimization opportunities and automation.

  15. Serves as SME, coach and mentor to teammates and to other teams. Also serves in a project management capacity supervising technical implementations performed by others.

  16. Works on multiple projects as needed; role may be a team member, leader or SME.

  17. Helps develop/revise/document appropriate standards, policies, and procedures relating to the management, security, maintenance, recovery and utilization of the services provided by IT. Evaluates and recommends changes to improve service levels.

  18. Promotes adherence to standardized IT processes, strategic guiding principles, and architectural standards.

  19. Actively shares knowledge with other IT members and improves the processes and tools used by IT.

  20. Provides after normal business hours (8am-5pm) support as needed.

  21. Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)


  1. 7+ years of experience managing Windows and/or Linux Servers, Enterprise Applications, or related systems administrator experience.

  2. 7+ years experience with analyzing critical problems and developing strategies for resolution.

  3. 5+ years experience developing PowerShell or BASH scripts to help maintain and support complex system integrations in Windows or Linux.

  4. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience directly interacting with customers and influencing individuals from all disciplines and levels of the organization.

  5. 1+ years experience mentoring and providing work guidance to less-experienced technicians.

  6. Understanding of Data Communications concepts and Protocols, IP addressing, remote connectivity and firewalls.

  7. Understanding of Group Policy and Active Directory. Is able to demonstrate an understanding on how these impact software tools.

  8. 5+ years experience leading technical activities on projects of high complexity.

  9. 5+ years experience in creating and maintaining Asset plans.

  10. 5+ years experience in creating, maintaining and testing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.

  11. Knowledge of the systems development life cycle and software configuration management.

  12. Knowledge of database management systems and database concepts that can be applied to software tools.

  13. Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing previous work assignments to ensure deadlines are met.

  14. 7+ years of experience in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  15. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or technical certifications or equivalent work experience.

  16. Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.

  • Ability to perform work outside of normal 8am - 5pm business hours as needed.

  • Ability to stand, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to install and relocate computer equipment, cabling, and peripherals.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. at any one time.

  • Ability to travel as required.
