Union Position - Local 501 Union Scale: $32.46 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Determine the sequence required to install, maintain, adjust, modify and perform major overhaul and repair of refrigerated air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, such as; absorption heater/chiller, centrifugal chiller, ice makers, walk-in freezer/refrigerator, carbon monoxide monitoring system.


Performs calibration of all electrical and pneumatic control components, by interpreting blue prints, manufacturer and Convention Center specifications and written and verbal instructions.


 AS WELL AS:


Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs on facility equipment such as; absorption heater/chiller, building automation system, air dryers and domestic hot water heater.


Repairs, maintains, troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance of equipment such as; walk-in freezer/refrigerator, reach-in freezer/refrigerator, air handler system (exhaust ventilation, return air systems), direct expansion package system, split systems, water treatment of open and closed loop systems, cooling towers, circulating pumps.


Conducts routine visual inspection of equipment.


Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, air/water filters, water, cleaning equipment, lubricating equipment, and making adjustments where necessary.


Completes daily work activity reports, sign of all completed work requests and make all log book entries.


Informs Plant Operations Supervisor of necessary parts needed for equipment repairs and status of completed/uncompleted work requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus successful completion of craft apprenticeship program or on the job training program providing journeyman level experience; and five years related experience in refrigeration/air conditioning and heating/ventilation at a large facility and/or training (preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


EPA Certification required.


Valid California Drives License required.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of building automation systems.  Knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting preferred. Experience working with refrigeration systems preferred. Experience working with voltage levels between 5V and 480V.  Experience working with single and three phase circuits and components.  Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, tools, equipment and techniques used in the trade.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.  Ability to work flexible hours including evenings weekends and holidays.  Ability to provide operating instructions and pass on knowledge to HVAC Engineer.  Must be able to respond to emergency calls.
