The Hackensack Meridian Health Center for Discovery and Innovation seeks a highly motivated Postdoc Research Fellow, Medical Mycology to study the determinants of drug tolerance and emergence of drug resistance in fungal pathogen Candida glabrata. The overarching research focus is on fungal and bacterial drug discovery, mechanisms of drug resistance and virulence in fungal pathogens, and development of rapid diagnostics for these life-threatening infections. The Postdoc will conduct research under the supervision of CDI's Research Assistant Member. This role will also be responsible for analyzing, interpreting and presenting the data. This role will play a critical role in conducting the studies of the assigned lab.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Medical Mycology at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

    Researches the determinants of drug tolerance and emergence of drug resistance in fungal pathogen Candida glabrata.
  • Assists in the Development of rapid diagnostics.

  • Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under direct supervision.

  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data.

  • Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.

  • Presents findings to higher level staff.

  • Presents results in internal and external research forums such as scientific conferences, lab meetings and institutional seminars.

  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

  • Participates in grant and manuscript writing, as appropriate.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:


  • A Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, or related discipline.

  • Minimum publication or in preparation of two articles as first author in a reputable peer-reviewed scientific journal.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Good problem solving skills.

  • Ability to conduct independent research.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Extensive expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, and a strong interest in infectious disease research, particularly mechanisms underpinning drug tolerance and resistance.
