Timken Gears and Services' Philadelphia Gear brand has a current opening for a Marine Program Specialist position. This position is responsible for providing dedicated project management and technical direction of the installations of the new Main Reduction Gears (MRG) at specific Navy shipyards across the US. The Marine Program Specialist position is essential in the successful Shipyard receipt inspection, storage, installation, alignment, dock trials, sea-trials, and operational acceptance by the Navy. This could entail some repair and/or replacing components of Philadelphia Gear equipment. This position is also instrumental in the troubleshooting equipment problems, and occasionally training of customer personnel along with a project supervisory role for larger installation or repair projects where the job scope includes shipyard or millwright services, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Meetings with Navy and Shipyard representatives ensuring that Philadelphia Gear's and Navy Ship specifications are met while minimizing risk to Philadelphia Gear and meeting shipyard's construction schedule.
  • Provide feedback to manufacturing to implement design modifications to reduce warranty costs, manufacturing costs, and increase product operational and procedural efficiency.
  • Attends receipt of the product and supervises unloading, storage and receipt inspection of the MRG.
  • Endures the product is stored and maintained per product instructions.
  • Oversees the installation and any needed repairs of equipment to ensure proper operation once completed.
  • May need to travel to support other Navy/ shipyards on an as needed basis.
  • Must be able to obtain/ maintain several safety certifications along with security passes.
  • This position also may require extended daily working hours to support customer needs, including multi-week engagements.

Technical/ Functional Skills:


  • Determine repair scope and/or replacement parts by supervising the disassembling of equipment and evaluating questionable components.
  • Provide technical direction for the installation, alignment, and start-up to ensure proper Philadelphia Gear's Navy, and shipyard procedures are followed.
  • Capable of visual inspection of all parts and be able to report back any issues found that are not within specification or have been damaged during transport.
  • Locate causes of equipment malfunctions by visually inspecting and listening to equipment, or by using various diagnostic equipment as required.

Basic Qualifications:


  • 12+ years of experience in the areas of engineering, technical, business or manufacturing and a high school degree
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, set goals and priorities
  • Ability to manage large projects with a high degree of accuracy and organization
  • Meet deadlines
  • Work well withina team, and interact with all levels of customers and internal support teams
  • Excellent computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Office software) and strong written and verbal communication skills are also required
  • Applicant must be able to walk, stand, climb, lift up to40 pounds, see and hear
