Kraft Mill Manufacturing Engineer - Clatskanie, OR

Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products division is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer in the Kraft Mill at the Wauna facility located in Clatskanie, OR. The role is responsible for increasing the effectiveness of the asset group by improving reliability, work processes, equipment performance, and team member capabilities.

The Wauna Mill is the proud producer of household products such as Brawny, Angel Soft, Sparkle, and Quilted Northern. The mill is located in a picturesque and uncrowded setting and is surrounded by the Clatsop Forest. Its central location provides numerous opportunities for both outdoor recreation and city living. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Improving reliability of kraft mill assets by leading the development, implementation, execution of asset strategies for the bleach plant, R8 CLO2 generator and associated equipment.
  • Facilitating root cause analysis process for equipment failures and/or losses. Ensuring that plans are developed and executed to address the root cause (check/adjust asset strategy).
  • Leading daily operations of equipment by developing operating targets, ensuring KPIs are met, equipment setup is correct, assisting operators with troubleshooting, identifying cause of gaps to plan and developing plans to close gap.
  • Managing changes made to the chemical process safety covered areas to ensure safe operations.
  • Collaborating with other departments such as maintenance, reliability, process control and paper machines to ensure assets meet safety, quality, productivity, and cost expectations while maintaining efficient operations.
  • Facilitating the outage planning process to ensure that plans are in place to safely execute work.
  • Improving longer term asset performance by understanding the business, mill, and department visions and identifying area needs to meet those objectives.
  • Prioritizing opportunities and developing a plan to create capability including potential capital and non-capital opportunities, and leading or participating in capital project scope development, engineering, execution, and startup.
  • Providing technical expertise on bleach plant and chemical prep assets and transferring knowledge to other members of the operating team via daily interaction and formal/informal skill building.
  • Developing Standard Procedures and building capability of technicians to competently perform tasks following the procedures.
  • Working with process control and technicians to implement automation/advanced controls to minimize technician interaction and reduce process variability.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial or military environment
  • One (1) or more year of experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and/or reliability strategies
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas), and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)

What Will Put You Ahead


  • Chemical, Manufacturing or Paper Science Engineering Degree

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a pulp mill

  • Formal equipment and/or manufacturing systems reliability training


  • Pulp Manufacturing OEM Experience

  • Chemical Process Safety Experience
