Job Description:

Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.

Associate or Senior Editor: Communications Engineering
Location: London, Shanghai, Berlin or New York
Closing date: June 3rd 2021

The Nature Portfolio is the world's leader in publishing high-quality research. We are now seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to help launch a brand new journal: Communications Engineering will be multidisciplinary and open-access and will report the latest advances in all areas of engineering, including civil, mechanical, and electrical and beyond.

If you love engineering, are passionate about communicating cutting-edge developments, and enjoy reading about technology beyond your own chosen area of research, you could be the person we are looking for to join the editorial team of Communications Engineering.

The associate or senior editor will work with the engineering community to select and prepare manuscripts for publication in the journal. The editor will promote the journal’s coverage of all the fields within this broad discipline.

To be considered for the position, you will have:

•    Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent). A background in electrical engineering would be particularly welcome

•    Postdoctoral experience is an advantage, but is not essential

•    A passion for engineering and a desire to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest, both within and beyond your speciality

•    The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different disciplines

•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English (written and spoken)

•    A desire to travel, when appropriate and required,  and meet researchers worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish

The position is offered on a full-time basis (starting as soon as possible), and will ideally be based in our London, Shanghai, Berlin or New York office. All employees are working remotely but you will be required to be based in the office when the offices reopen, also in line with our working from home policy.

Applicants should send:

•    a CV (including a summary of your research and other relevant experience)

•    a research highlight in the Nature style (about 150 words) on a recent paper that you think is particularly exciting

•    and a brief cover letter explaining your interest in the post, your notice period and your salary expectations.

Closing Date: June 3rd, 2021
