The Scientist III, Tech Ops leads complex projects in the areas of recombinant protein expression and purification, with an emphasis on methods development. Additionally, the Scientist III, Protein designs and executes assays to characterize the purity and function of purified proteins. The Scientist III is expected to actively participate in technical interactions with clients and assist the Client Relations Team in review of proposals.

Responsibilities

• Protein Purification and Characterization
  
  
  
  • Purify recombinant proteins at scales ranging from milligrams to tens of grams using automated chromatography systems
  
  
  • Develop protein purification methods using high-throughput chromatography scouting
  
  
  • Characterize in-process samples and purified proteins using methods including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE, RP HPLC, aSEC, LAL assay, activity assays and ELISA
  
  
  • Complete project plans according to all specifications, including timeline and budget
  
  
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and work practices in the fields of protein expression, purification, and characterization
  
  
  
  


• Client Interactions
  
  
  
  • Serve as a technical lead during discussions with Aldevron clients
  
  
  
  


• Assist in design of project plans and proposals that meet the requirements of Aldevron clients
  
  
  
  • Assist in generation of project reports and technical presentations
  
  
  
  

Required Skills

• Hands-on knowledge of AKTA chromatography systems and the Unicorn software platform


• Strong working knowledge of tangential flow ultrafiltration for buffer exchange and concentration of proteins


• Familiarity with a variety of enzyme assay platforms, including UV, fluorescence, fluorescence polarization, HTRF and cell-based assays


• Excellent oral and written communication skills


• The ability to supervise other scientists as needed

Must-Haves

• Degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a closely related field
