Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

As part of the Strategy and Communications team the Strategic Communications Associate / Digital Engagement Associate will help promote Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medicine and the exceptional care provided by our physicians to Kaiser Permanente members by researching, writing, designing and creating a variety of content for internal and external audiences across all digital channels including internal and external websites, newsletters and social media profiles. The Strategic Communications Associate / Digital Engagement Associate must be a self-starter with a high level of organization and self-accountability. This position will work closely with the communications director, medical excellence writer, digital content manager and other communications professionals.

This position may begin fully remote and will eventually be based in our regional location in Rockville, Maryland, with occasional travel to medical centers across Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Majority of work will be focused on creating visually appealing content to drive online engagement and promote Permanente Medicine. Duties will vary based on strategic communications priorities and may include:

 


  • Writing:

    • Interview physicians for blogs, news or speaking opportunities

    • Write articles for internal newsletters and websites

    • Draft copy for social media channels



  • Design:

    • Create social media graphics, templates and other visual assets in Canva or Photoshop

    • Develop and design email marketing newsletters



  • Social Media and Events:

    • Assist in content planning, development and community engagement

    • Support development and logistics of virtual and in-person events, such as Facebook Live



  • Media and Public Relations:

    • Help identify topics in the news where Permanente Medicine physicians can offer expertise

    • Track and publicize earned media opportunities



  • Web:

    • Produce accessible content for internal and external websites in a variety of content management systems (CMS)



  • Research and other duties:

    • Assist with researching new tools to support communications goals

    • Research opportunities to promote the medical group’s expertise to public audiences



QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field.

  • Internships or one year of work experience in marketing/public relations, preferably in health care.

  • Photography, video editing skills or science writing skills are a plus.

  • Ability to quickly create, design and edit content in Canva, Photoshop or similar programs.

  • Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage tasks independently and deliver action items in accordance with timelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team, with enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity.

  • Candidates should enjoy a fast-paced environment and appreciate the opportunity to learn by working on new projects regularly.

External hires must pass a background check/drug screen.
