OBJECTIVE
Manage Yard and Store operations to optimize sales and profitability while satisfying Customer and Yard/Store needs. Provide customers with a shopping atmosphere that is well maintained, clean, organized and safe.


The salary range for this position is $76,000.00/yr - $114,000.00/yr depending on experience.

This job description describes the duties and responsibilities, qualification requirements, physical demands, work environment, etc. for this job. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are the essential duties and responsibilities of the Job. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Develop monthly, quarterly and annual plans in conjunction with Regional Operations Manager and General Office staff to meet Company goals for Yard/Store operations and profitability. Recruit, direct and motivate subordinates to attain goals.
2. Analyze end of day, week, and month reports to monitor sales, gross profit and inventory activity. Identify trends and take proactive or remedial action to handle business situations.
3. Ensure quality Customer Service through personal interaction with contractor and retail Customers. Personally handle large volume Customer accounts as required. Train subordinate staff to provide quality Customer Service. Resolve Customer complaints.
4. Monitor inventory of merchandise in all Departments (especially Departments 1-2). Maintain appropriate merchandise levels through proper ordering, receiving, pricing, merchandising and shrink control.
5. Oversee store and yard operations through regular inspections of sales floor and yard to ensure completion of daily opening and closing procedures, project completion, good housekeeping, inventory control, merchandising and Customer Service.
6. Manage and monitor credit for all new and current Customers including set-up of accounts, changes to accounts (increases/decreases in credit limits) and involvement in collection/lien rights. Communicate with District Credit Manager regarding any credit problems.
7. Oversee orientation and training of new Associates and ongoing training of all Associates. Conduct in-Store/Yard training sessions as required.
8. Establish and review market penetration, pricing, margins, selling approaches and itineraries with Outside Sales Representatives. Visit job sites of key or target Customers.
9. Budget and administer Company's sales incentive programs for sales force and Customers. Structure programs to motivate sales personnel and encourage customers to purchase increasing levels of merchandise and service.
10. Report market activity to management by monitoring and analyzing competitive price lists and products. Make product recommendations for inclusion in Company merchandise line.
11. Manage Human Resources activities and payroll, plan work schedules to meet work coverage needs, and maintain personnel files and information.
12. Open and close Yard/Store and fill in for Store Operations Manager and/or Yard Operations Manager as required.
13. Manage Associates, assets and inventory to achieve the Best Management Practices as outlined in the Management Bonus Program documents.
14. Ensure the required inspections and forms are completed to comply with the Corporate Fleet Maintenance Program.
15. Attend and participate in all Company sponsored training programs as required.
16. Perform any other duties, responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages 2-3 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 5-30 Associates in Store Operations, Yard Operations, Contractor Sales and Outside Sales. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 1-5 administrative Associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

NATURE/SCOPE
This job is key to the effective functioning of Store/Yard and to the overall Company profitability in Departments 1-15. This job manages varying amounts of Annual Sales and Average Inventory according to size of Yard.

DIMENSIONS
This job requires a strong leader and coach. The individual should have a good knowledge of point of sales systems, basic business accounting, safety and store security.

ORGANIZATION
This job reports to the Regional Operations Manager which reports to the C.O.O. The other positions reporting to the same supervisor are the other General Managers, Manufacturing Plant/Warehouse Managers and District Office Staff. Positions reporting to this job are Store Operations Manager, Yard Operations Manager, Sales Manager and Yard/Store administrative staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and five to eight years related experience (three to five years in supervisory role); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A valid driver's license of the appropriate type and class issued by the state of residence to operate a Company vehicle (if assigned; temporarily or permanently) is required. Furthermore, the driver's record must be acceptable to the Company's insurance carrier and must conform to all restrictions listed on the license in order to operate any Company truck or vehicle.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent interpersonal, communication, sales, Customer Service and training skills are necessary. Strong knowledge of building materials (including commodities and hardlines) products and lumber is required. Ability to operate computer equipment and applicable programs is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
