Nature & Scope:  The Human Resources Specialist manages the day-to-day administrative functions of the human resources department, including HR policies, procedures, and programs.  The position carries out administrative responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruiting and staffing, employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation and payroll, and regulatory compliance such as employment laws.

Specific Job Responsibilities & Duties:


  • Manages effective recruitment program including screening, job fairs, interviewing of and hiring new employees with employment offer letter to ensure a smooth on-boarding experience.

  • Conducts on-boarding of all new hires including background checks, new hire orientation and forms, and E-Verification.

  • Keeps employee files and database current and active.

  • Administers company benefit program ensuring employees are kept informed of all benefit and policy changes.

  • Completes all Department of Labor and Unemployment, EEO, and Corporate reports and forms.

  • Assists in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements.

  • Monitors FMLA and disability claims and ensures timely response of requested information.

  • Coordinates with outside agencies for temporary labor. 

  • Attends safety committee meetings and supports the safety functions in the facility with any training and communication efforts.

  • Enters approved payroll adjustments, changes, and new hire information on payroll system.

  • Conducts exit interviews and reviews content with appropriate management team.


  • Responds appropriately to and investigates employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.

  • Provides guidance on disciplinary actions – reviews with Supervisor, recommends appropriate action(s).


  • Manages United Way and Volunteer programs.

  • Manages Wellness initiatives and education programs.

  • Coordinates employee celebration functions.

Qualifications:

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or related field; or equivalent experience

Experience


  • Minimum 2 years Human Resource experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment

 

Skills


  • Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, counseling managers and employees on the interpretation of policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management and supervision.

  • Attention to detail, prepare written reports and correspondence, and conduct presentations to leadership as required. 

  • Build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of unemployment and workers compensation.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize work, and self-motivated.

  • Proven leadership.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
