Area Owner

Purpose: This position is responsible to achieve schedule, efficiency and utilization goals, through coordination with Production Control Planners, direct labor employees and other shift Area Owners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Obtains schedule priority and production goal direction from the Production Control Planner.


• Determines overall resource assignments including product, rotation, and cross training to achieve schedule, efficiency and utilization goals.


• Reviews and approves vacation requests according to factory guidelines.


• Provides follow-through on priorities to ensure results are achieved.


• Updates and maintains Factory SQDC boards.


• Participate in the identification and corrective action in performance to goal issues.


• Elevates performance issues/facts to the Coach for correction.


• Ensures accurate shift-to-shift communication focusing on production priorities and results.


• Measures area effectiveness in terms of schedule attainment, utilization and efficiency.


• Ensures timecard accuracy and legibility.


• Performs various materials coordination activities.


• Sustains and maintains 5S standards and all continuous improvement activities.


• Must be a cooperative and participating member in all cell/team activities such as team meetings, team presentations, problem solving exercises, etc.


• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Work Experience Requirements: Previous experience as a Key Holder and/or Area Owner backup is strongly desired.

Knowledge Requirements: Demonstrated ability to coordinate direct labor activities and make production work assignments. Basic computer skills. Fundamental understanding of the application of efficiency and utilization metrics. Strong planning and organization, communication, and group problem solving skills. Leadership skills and demonstrated ability to function successfully in a team environment. Willing to work all scheduled overtime and be available for off-shift meetings. Willing and able to continually rotate through a variety of manufacturing processes, performing all types of tasks in a cell/team environment. Must be reliably and predictably available to perform the major duties of the position at the assigned work site. Must be able to be ready to perform the job tasks at the assigned starting time.
