The Need

After twenty years of successful programming, IJM has a strong portfolio of innovative and impactful justice reform programs that protect people from violence. As IJM continues to grow, it is seeking an accomplished leader to administer its research portfolio. The person will have excellent administration, documentation, and organization skills; be proficient at collaboration across teams, have expertise in developing and facilitating adoption of business processes and standards to manage IJM’s portfolio of ground-breaking research work. The person will work directly with IJM’s global, regional, and program research staff; and program staff across the organization.

This position is based remotely or at IJM Headquarters in the Washington, DC area and reports to the Global Vice President, Program Quality & Measurement

Responsibilities


  • Oversee development of research quality & compliance framework: Develop and maintain business processes, standards, tools, and other documentation on IJM sponsored research studies. Ensure alignment with industry standards and donor/foundation guidelines;


  • Oversee adoption of and adherence to research quality & compliance framework: Develop, implement, and monitor efforts to secure understanding and adoption of and adherence to the framework. Create pathways to successful adoption;


  • Build capacity on research standards & documentation requirements: Develop, implement, and monitor efforts to build staff capacity on research standards, documentation requirements. Mentor and coach counterparts as needed; and 


  • Administer internal research review processes: Develop, manage, and monitor processes to secure internal input to IJM research studies, including internal ethical reviews. Maintain documentation of decisions, recommendations, and actions.


Requirements:


  • Minimum 4 years of research administration experience in academic, foundation, nonprofit, or similar environment and research conducted in one of IJM’s main program areas (Africa, Latin America, South Asia, or Southeast Asia);


  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline; evidence of training/certification in research administration/ethical human subjects research standards;


  • Proven ability to develop, maintain, explain, and ensure adoption of research administration processes and standards;


  • Proven ability to design and deliver training and other learning initiatives to increase understanding and acceptance of research administration standards;


  • Proven ability to maintain accurate documentation and records of a large research portfolio;


  • Familiarity with U.S. federal research standards, especially ethical human subjects research standards;


  • Experience working successfully across teams, especially in a matrix-like structure;


  • Experience of reconciling different points of view into a successful outcome; and


  • Experience in training, coaching, mentoring, and supporting research staff.
