TheGroup: Clinical Research Informatics

Clinical Research Informatics (CRI) provides informatics expertise to support RTI's mission to "improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice". A group of multi-disciplinary problem solvers, we provide a range of solutions for clinical and epidemiological research studies for clients in the public and private sector. The group has experts in electronic data capture systems, data and project management, software design and development, and systems architecture. Our flexible approach and experience allow CRI to support research initiatives across RTI.

The Role: Application Systems Analyst

Application Systems Analysts (SA) solves complex and interesting problems using a range of skills. Demands vary by project, and our SAs are the bridge that connects technical staff within CRI (e.g., developers, data managers) to study leadership (e.g., Investigators, Project Directors) and end users to ensure project success. Each project brings a unique set of challenges, often requiring creative thinking and problem solving. This position is for a well-qualified individual who can support a range of informatics projects. The nature of the role requires (1) an independent worker who is comfortable facilitating informatics activities across a range of projects, (2) an individual comfortable working in a dynamic environment where project needs shift rapidly, and (3) someone able to build relationships with project staff across RTI.



Responsibilities Include (but not limited to)

* Participant in research project teams and informatics teams to plan, design, and implement research information systems,

* Communicate process changes to internal and external research partners,

* Analyze requirements, design, document, and test new applications as well as maintain and support existing applications,

* Document processes according to RTI SOPs, best practices and quality guidance materials, and propose future processes in the spirit of continuous improvement,

* Support and implement standards and methods for informatics and data collection efforts,

* Perform encoding, testing, and debugging, as necessary to meet project specific goals,

* Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Standards and Guidelines and ensure adherence,

* Commit to high standards of quality and participate in quality initiatives, and

* Research, recommend, learn, and apply new technologies.








Education and Experience:

* Master's degree in Public Health, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, or other related discipline plus at least 3 years related professional experience, or

* Bachelor's degree in Biostatistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics or other related discipline plus at least 6 years related professional experience,

* A combination of performance, education and prior directly related experience will be considered as equivalent to the above requirements provided that the individual possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job requirements satisfactorily.

Required:

* Demonstrated client-focused applications experience,

* Experience applying process standards,

* Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the study and applications development project teams,

* Legal authorization to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status,



Preferred:

* Experience understanding applications (web, desktop, and/or mobile) in the context of research studies,

* Ability to utilize source-code control and task-tracking software, such as Git and Jira,

* Familiarity with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems such as Medidata RAVE, or REDCap,

* Experience leading and managing teams

* Working knowledge of clinical and epidemiological research, and implementation of data collection systems,

* Strong interest in science and health issues.
