About the Job

Our Hydrogeology/HazWaste group is looking for a Staff Environmental Engineer/Hydrogeologist with 1 to 3 years of experience in the environmental engineering or hydrogeological fields. Our environmental engineers, hydrogeologists and other technical specialists help public agencies and private landowners assess potential contamination in air, soil and groundwater; design and implement remediation strategies; and evaluate groundwater supplies. You will be working with different project managers on a variety of projects ranging from Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and well siting projects to conducting multi-day field sampling events and overseeing drilling of groundwater production wells.

This position will initially be based in our Encinitas, CA office.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments

  • Soil, soil vapor, air, surface water, and groundwater sampling

  • Research and evaluation of remediation alternatives

  • Groundwater well design and construction

  • Data management (including data entry, QA/QC and data evaluation)

  • Report writing

  • Evaluate existing and potential groundwater resources and development

  • Design and implement groundwater/surface water numerical models

  • Environmental litigation support

  • Ability to lift 100 lbs with assistance

Minimum Qualifications


  • B.S. in Environmental Engineering, Geology or similar field

  • Engineer-in-Training/Geologist-in-Training certification

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Strong capability for problem solving, especially in the field where creative solutions are often necessary

Preferred Qualifications


  • M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology or similar field

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification

  • Self-starter qualities, including good time management skills and independent nature

  • Willingness to ask questions of and learn from peers and project managers

  • Proactive on project efforts, understanding of project objectives and big picture goals
