Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY


The Food Technologist is responsible for providing technical support for all food and non-food product development activities. This position will also be responsible for diagnosing problems with products and providing support for team members with their product development duties.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Tests products to identify potential problems or flaws; methodically steps through product interfaces and document product issues.

  • Assist cross functional partners by managing documentation and new food product demonstrations across multiple categories. Receive, log, and store food product sample submissions. Create and distribute demonstration reports.

  • Identifies product weaknesses and communicates effective possible solutions.

  • Draft new finished product specifications into a database, such as ingredient statements, based on input from cross functional partners. Route specifications for approval.

  • Conduct a wide range of analytical tests, sensory testing, shelf life and product stability studies

  • Acquire nutrition information from manufacturing plants and Suppliers (ingredient and finished goods) and enter data into a nutritional database program

  • Assist cross functional partners by managing and updating product files in an internal specification database system.

  • Ensure all products under development conform to quality procedures for product safety and integrity.

  • Investigates ingredient and process innovations through contacts with outside suppliers.

  • Solve technical problems through search of scientific literature or other sources of technical information.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering or related field preferred.

  • 2+ years experience in product development, food analysis, QC lab or related field.

  • Thorough knowledge of food manufacturing equipment and food preparation.

  • Thorough understanding of food safety and microbiology.

  • Thorough understanding of ingredient functionality and product formulations.

  • Working knowledge of packaging technology to evaluate adequacy of packaging.

  • Working knowledge of food labeling regulations.

  • Working knowledge of sensory evaluation procedures

  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.

  • Able to operate simple chemical and analytical tools and laboratory equipment (refractometer, pH meter, simple titrations, and various measuring devices.)

  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, project & planning skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).

  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.

  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.

  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

  • Keen interest in food and/or non-food product development.

  • Occasional travel either locally or nationally may be required.
