Are you an electrical, electronic, or computer engineering student looking for an internship opportunity for Summer 2021? If so, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you!  Based in our Rosemont, IL, headquarters and Skokie, IL, lab facility, you will provide engineering support in the development of Industrial power supplies, UPS systems and Digital communication modules.  Under the guidance of the Director of Engineering for our SolaHD brand, you will expand your technical and professional skills in a real-world setting. Our interns are given valuable project responsibilities, support, and mentorship from experienced employees and key business leaders. There is potential to gain knowledge and experience in a variety of ways by exploring opportunities associated with your major and collaborating with multiple departments. Our interns are a key source of talent for full-time employment opportunities after graduation at Emerson’s many locations.    AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING INTERN, YOU WILL:  


  • Connect SolaHD Communication modules to controllers such as Emerson DeltaV, Ovation, Rockwell PLCs and conduct system performance evaluation
  • Conduct performance characterization, reliability testing on power supplies and UPS systems including electrical, mechanical, and temperature tests
  • Perform competitive analysis by creating bills of material, performing product teardowns, and testing product capabilities
  • Analyze component failure on field returns
  • Assist Senior Design Engineers in the development of New Products

You tackle the challenge of unfamiliar tasks and learn quickly when facing new situations. You dig for root causes of a problem and look for patterns. You make the most of available development resources; taking opportunities to learn from people around you, new experiences, and structured learning. You scan the environment for new technical skills, knowledge, or capabilities that can benefit business or personal performance.    

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering
  • Junior or Senior undergraduate standing or pursuing graduate degree as of Fall 2021
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience working with Power supplies, Oscilloscopes, Function generator, and/or digital meters through course work or prior internships.
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, at our office in Rosemont, IL, during Summer 2021. 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

  PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  

  • Knowledge of computer networks, power electronics, control theory.
  • Soldering experience and/or ability to read schematics.
  • Working knowledge of project management processes and tools.
