Vice President, Emerging Markets, Prudential International Insurance (PII) Compliance Risk Management 

Prudential International Insurance (PII) Compliance provides centralized oversight and governance of compliance programs in all jurisdictions in which PII operates across Latin America, Asia, and Africa. This individual contributor position will report to the PII Emerging Markets Chief Compliance Officer supporting the oversight of a compliance risk management program to establish consistent, rigorous, risk assessment and documentation across PII. This role will support executing continuous improvement of the compliance risk management program and its evolution with business growth and risk. Further, this role will assist in assessing the quality of the program to ensure it remains effective at timely risk identification and mitigation.

Responsibilities include:


  • Assist with the execution of PII Compliance’s strategic approach to risk mitigation, which is proactive and preventative in various business operations across Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

  • Support the Emerging Markets Chief Compliance Officer and PII Chief Compliance Officer to build and implement a proactive, strategic compliance risk management program that is risk-based, and data driven

  • Proactive, strategic, risk mitigation that is risk-based and data driven

  • Support the review and effective challenge of local compliance risk assessments to identify potential control gaps and mitigation plans

  • Partner with in-country business operations and Compliance teams as well as Corporate Compliance colleagues to assist in assessing, developing, and implementing enhanced controls and processes, including implementation of enhanced risk assessments

  • Drive enhancements to existing compliance risk management governance including consistency of program implementation, evolving quality assurance, accountability across PII, and key risk indicator monitoring centrally

  • Drive a sound and sustainable control environment consistent with Prudential’s Compliance Policies and Global Program standards (as applicable)

  • Develop an ongoing curriculum in partnership with in-country Compliance teams and Corporate Compliance to enhance compliance risk management via advocating and executing on a risk-based approach via:

    • Three lines of defense governance model

    • Risk identification

    • Risk management

    • Risk mitigation

    • Risk escalation

    • Monitoring and testing



  • Assist with guidance of in-country Compliance professionals in the assessment of inherent and residual compliance risk and the development of dynamic, risk-based monitoring and testing plans.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with in-country Compliance teams in various locations across Latin America, Asia, and Africa

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with both U.S based and in-country PII business partners, as well other functional partners (Legal, Risk, and Audit)

  • Be a thought partner and strategist with excellent influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively  across complex businesses, functions, and all levels of personnel, while conveying a sense of trust and  confidence.

  • Support the preparation of cadenced management reporting on Compliance Risk Management Program status, progress, issues, and trends for Compliance management meetings, PII Compliance and Business leadership, Control Forums, and other governance meetings.

  • Bachelor's degree, advanced degree or certification in relevant or related field.

Required background

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant financial services/regulatory enforcement and global compliance risk management experience (including experience with compliance risk assessments, monitoring and testing, issue remediation, and compliance risk reporting).  Both financial services and international experience are required.  The successful candidate may come from another segment of diversified financial services or another control related disciplines (Legal, Regulatory, Audit, or Risk Management). The successful candidate will bring technical compliance expertise with superior knowledge, skills and experience in compliance and regulatory matters.  In addition, the successful candidate will have “intercultural agility” to effectively work with multiple and diverse countries and cultures.  Additional specific requirements include:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, and JD, MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Proven leader who can influence senior leadership across complex financial institutions, including businesses and control functions

  • Must be highly collaborative, open-minded, and able to work with and influence others without having direct authority

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to make complex issues understandable

  • Comfortable in ambiguity, self-directed, and an agent and advocate for change.

  • Excellent judgement and utmost integrity and objectivity, with demonstrated commitment to upholding high standards, sound judgment, confidentiality, confidence, agility, and strong collaborative skills.
