JOB DUTIES

Reviews aircraft data and avionics documentation to develop simulation models for use in professional pilot training. Will work to create a variety of aircraft systems (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc...) and avionics (radios, flight management, displays, etc...) models and integrate these software models with those of other engineering disciplines such as propulsion, flight, and the external aircraft environment to create a fully functional aircraft simulator.

Will work on a wide variety of aircraft including commercial air transports, business jets, helicopters, and military platforms.

Will work on multiple simulator types from Level D full flight simulators (six degree-of-freedom motion systems, wraparound visual systems, and exact cockpit layout and avionics duplication) used by pilots to earn flight hours to lower fidelity graphical desktop based trainers and mixed reality / virtual reality trainers.

If aircraft data is not available from the manufacturer, will assist in gathering data from aircraft or test bench to be used to re-engineer the aircraft avionics.

Involved in the entire simulator design process from requirements gathering, developing the model, integrating the model with hardware, preparing test guides, checkout with the customer, and qualifying the training devices with the local authority like the FAA.

Works well with other engineers, technicians, program managers and customers. Interacts within a cooperative environment with a commitment to common goals, contribution to problem solving, and communication of ideas, suggestions, and encouragement.

Provides updates and works to the assigned schedule and budget. Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.

Domestic and international travel, shift work, and special work hours will be required at times to accomplish the above tasks.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS

Level I - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level II - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science; and two years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.

Level III - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science; and four years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.

Level IV - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science; and six years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.

Level V - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science; and ten years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed

Basic high level programming skills required. C, C++, or FORTRAN specifically are a plus. Knowledge of operating systems such as UNIX, Linux, and Concurrent OS/32 are a plus.
