CONSTRUCTION PRACTICE
Michael Baker International's Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.
DESCRIPTION
The Resident Engineer (Structural) - North Jersey (North of I-195) or South Jersey (South of I-195) will be responsible for day to day oversight of Construction Management Services on Bridge Construction/Reconstruction projects and will report to the Construction Services Project Manager and to the client Project Manager. You will leverage your construction knowledge and skills to oversee Construction Contracts to ensure compliance with engineering plans, specifications, quality construction practices and safety standards.


  • Most days will be spent at the construction site or field office as the point of contact for the project, with detailed understanding of plans and specifications for the construction project, processing contractor submittals and RFIs, and supervising/directing the Project CM Team consisting of inspectors, office staff, schedulers, and subconsultant staff.

  • You will chair regular progress meetings, oversee change order management, manage contractor payments, address field construction issues, and provide regular client updates. You will assist the CM Project Manager in preparing and submitting invoices, including preparation of detailed progress reports.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 10 years of related construction inspection experience, including at least one project as Resident Engineer on a Bridge Construction project with valid client references. Your resume must demonstrate strong Resident Engineering experience.

  • NICET IV certification in Highway Construction or Professional Engineer license required, with minimum 4 years relative experience after attaining certification/license.

  • NJDOT, NJTA, or other major transportation agency project experience performing inspection of structural components (bridges, retaining walls, sign structures), and related work including demolition, earthwork, concrete and/or asphalt paving construction, drainage and utility construction, highway lighting construction, and other typical work associated with bridge construction projects.

  • Associate's degree or better in a construction or engineering related field desired but not required if Resident Engineering experience is substantial.

  • Valid certifications in ACI Field Concrete Testing, NJ Society of Asphalt Technician certification (or NECEPT), Rutgers TCP, and ACI CCTC certification desirable

  • OSHA 10 hour or ability to obtain

  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel) etc

  • Working knowledge of CPM scheduling principles is desirable.

  • Experience using transportation agency reporting software is desirable, such as NJTA CapEx system or NJDOT Site Manager.
