This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.

Your Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Lab Materials Engineer for John Deere ISG located in Moline, IL, you will:


  • Characterize the mechanical properties of polymeric, elastomeric and composite materials in support of our suppliers and Deere's internal business processes (OFP, PDP and TDP).
  • Translate the needs of internal customers into precise testing requirements and deliverables.
  • Provide formal reports to internal customers that interpret analytical results for a broader, non-technical audience.

What Skills You Need


  • Understand and put into practice the ASTM and ISO standards relevant to mechanical characterization of polymeric materials.
  • Coordinate with external labs to expand available testing capabilities, modify existing test fixtures and design and fabricate new test fixtures to meet the requirements of internal customers.
  • Manage the color approval process and accelerated weathering operations for polymeric materials.
  • We need an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment.
  • 1 or more years of experience with mechanical testing equipment (MTS or Instron), testing software (Bluehill, TestSuite, LabView, etc.) and test specimen preparation specific to the mechanical characterization of polymers.
  • 1 or more years of experience with Xenon Arc Accelerated Weathering equipment and spectrophotometry equipment and software.
  • 1 or more years of experience with plastic and metal machining processes (CNC, vertical-knee mill, lathe, bandsaw, drill press, etc.).
  • 1 or more years of experience with computer software: MS Office, CAD/CAM packages such as Creo, ProE, AutoCAD, SprutCAM, etc.

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Supervise machine shop operations, maintain equipment, provide training, manage shop & tooling supplies, and maintain 5S practices.
  • Work with equipment vendors to maintain equipment calibrations and resolve any technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Color evaluations - both visual and instrumental evaluations.
  • Experience with MS SharePoint Administration.
  • Experience using VBA to write macros in Excel.

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor's degree or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related field.
