Splicing Coordinator at Uniti

Job Description:

The Splicing Coordinator coordinates all splicing activity throughout the network. The Splicing Coordinator must have the ability to understand engineering and create splicing drawings. This person must possess strong project management skills, knowledge of construction practices for cable splicing, and sufficient experience with computers to update drawings and have a background in Fiber Optic splicing documentation practices. The person must have telecommunications experience and the ability to travel as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Works with Uniti Pre Sales to determine future projects that need splicing quotes for pricing models.

  • Works with OSP Contractors to produce splicing and testing quotes for new projects.

  • Works with Uniti Accounting to produce new purchase orders for OSP Contractor quotes.

    1. Notify Uniti Accounting once work is complete and invoice can be paid.
      • Creates milestone completion notices for 3-way verification needed to pay invoices.


    2. Notify Uniti Service Delivery Director OSP Contractor invoices can be approved.



  • Works with Uniti Service Delivery Project Managers on splicing and testing priorities to complete projects on time. Holds weekly meetings to update Uniti Service Delivery team on splicing and testing progress and any remediation work that is needed.

  • Creates and updates trackers in Smartsheet for all splicing, testing and remediation work.

  • Produces weekly updates for management and senior management on current projects.

  • Coordinates maintenance windows (planned or unplanned) for splicing and testing work to be completed.

  • Creates Windstream NOC notifications to notify Windstream of upcoming work that needs to be scheduled 10 day in advance.

  • Notifies Uniti NOC of upcoming work so that tracking tickets can be created for any customer notifications.

  • Works with Corporate GIS team to verify what fiber data is needed to create splicing work orders for OSP Contractors.

  • Works with Corporate GIS team to update 3-GIS records after splicing is complete with splice audit information.

  • Works with Windstream GIS team to update 3-GIS records after splicing is complete with splice audit information.

  • Manages any remediation work that needs to be completed by an OSP Contractor on new routes that was discovered during testing.

Education and/ or Experience:


  • Must have 2+ years of OSP Project Management or Splicing experience.

  • Education Level: High School/Some College preferred.

  • Project accounting experience preferred.

  • NOC notifications and scheduling experience preferred.

  • Overnight and travel as required.

  • Field of Study: Drafting, Electronics or Telecommunications.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.

  • Ability to interact effectively with other team members.

  • Excellent skills in Outlook, Excel and MS Word.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines.

  • Must be able to work independently without supervision.

  • A combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Sitting, standing, and walking.

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.

  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device and/or a paper copy.

Working Conditions:


  • Ability to work multiple tasks in a stressful environment while maintaining a positive and pleasant manner with others.

  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment.

  • Ability to travel up to 80%.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
