Job Description:

Zoetis is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral candidate to join the Veterinary Medicine R&D Global Diagnostics Group. The post-doctoral candidate will conduct research projects developing clinical chemistries and/or antibody chemistries that will ultimately facilitate development of robust diagnostic products for companion animals and livestock. Whereas the candidate will be affiliated with the Diagnostics R&D division, Zoetis offers a unique opportunity to operate and learn from participation across the entire spectrum of research and product development, including for detection, prevention and treatment of diseases in animal health.

We are looking for a self-starter who will be conducting independent research projects developing innovative methodologies to effectively and accurately deliver enzymatic chemistry and / or antibody-based assays to our flagship rotor products.

The candidate's primary responsibility will be designing and executing experimental research projects innovating chemistry formulations and driving an in-depth understanding of specific reagent components and their impact on diagnostic assay performance and stability. Emphasis will be given to assessing the integrity of the assay reagents both in non-lyophilized and lyophilized form (beads) using various analytical spectroscopic techniques (UV-visible, CD, fluorescence, Raman).

Moreover, experience with enzymatic reagent and / or antibody reagent screening, reagent stabilization, lyophilization technologies and / or reagent delivery in microfluidic systems will be an asset in this position. Biochemical assay experience including ELISA, antibody/antigen conjugation techniques and Western Blot is required.

Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) strongly desired.

The successful candidate is highly organized and will be responsible for keeping an up to date organized laboratory notebook. In addition, writing SOPs and other guideline documents will be part of the responsibilities. The candidate has strong communication skills and is expected to deliver data presentations and presentations for internal meetings/symposia. The candidate will be encouraged to attend external meetings.

The successful candidate will be based in Kalamazoo, MI, but will be spending time in Union City, CA on an as-needed basis.

Job Responsibilities:

Formulating working hypotheses and independently designing and executing experiments to test them

Collaborating closely with various expert teams on developing state-of-the-art reagent formulations

Participating in symposia and conferences relevant to projects

Documenting experimental designs, results and conclusions in electronic laboratory notebooks

Presenting experimental data to peers and supervisors on a regular basis

Day-to-day management of laboratory equipment and inventory

Writing SOPs and other best-practices guideline documents

Education and Experience

PhD in clinical chemistry, biochemistry, immunochemistry, or analytical chemistry

PhD in material sciences and / or microfluidics will be considered.

Technical Skills Requirements

Experience developing enzyme-based assays and / or antibody-based assays: chemistry formulation, enzymatic reagent and / or antibody / antigen reagent screening and reagent stabilization

Good understanding of lyophilization technologies and microfluidic systems

Experience with analytical spectroscopy techniques (UV-visible, CD, fluorescence, Raman).

Biochemical assay experience including ELISA, antibody/gen conjugation techniques and Western Blot.

Design of Experiment (DOE) experience required

Experience integrating reagents into microfluidic cartridges / systems desired.
