PLANNING/ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE

RESPONSIBILITIES

Michael Baker is seeking a full-time summer Biologist Intern for a project located in Texas. Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, conducting benthic and water quality sampling, identification and quantification of benthic samples using a dissecting microscope in a laboratory setting in our Round Rock office, and data entry, quality control, and reporting. Frequent overnight travel (25-50%) during the M-F work week to Texas coasts for sampling is required. Ideal candidate will be comfortable working in the field, carrying field equipment, working in hot and humid conditions, working in inclement weather on occasion, and working in sandy and muddy conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Currently working towards a Bachelor's or Masters' degree in Biology, Marine Biology, or Aquatic Biology.
  • Coursework completed in benthic and water quality sampling; b enthic species identification, enumeration, and biomass analysis; laboratory d ata entry and quality control; microscope slide mounting, staining, and cover slipping; and preparation of culture media.
  • Must be familiar with laboratory protocols including safety, proper disposal of chemicals, chain of custody, and storage of reference samples.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Preferred candidate will be familiar with univariate and multivariate statistical analysis using programs such as SAS and/or PRIMER and visualizing data using tables and graphs.
  • Preferred candidate will be proficient using an electronic database such as Microsoft Excel or Access.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
