JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Lead Technician and Quality Assurance Manager, the Lab Technician performs equipment set-up to assigned production line and monitors the production process.  Performs chemical or instrumental analyses to determine that material being processed meets the company-required formulas and standards.  Unloads fructose trucks and places material in inventory.


JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Note: The job functions relate to the job, not the individual)


  1. Understand, follow, and enforce all established safety, health, quality, Food Safety, GMP and Company policies, procedures, and recognized practices.

  2. Know the purpose and follow proper operation of all safety switches, interlocks and safety devices.

  3. Maintain work area to acceptable safety and housekeeping standards.

  4. Perform production line set-up and monitor process. 

  5. Utilize laboratory test equipment and apparatus to perform product quality tests, inspect raw material, and to perform bacteriology, CO2 and HPLC testing.

  6. Maintain files, computer records, and test results; record corrective procedures, control reports and supporting data in accordance with prescribed procedures.  Document tasks completed, time completed, and any deficiencies found.

  7. Maintain and back wash water treating system.

  8. Monitor and maintain RO water systems.

  9. Perform wastewater treatment monitoring.

  10. Sanitize equipment to ensure company quality standards are met.

  11. Perform quality test on consumer complaints to determine problem and cause.

  12. Unload fructose truck.  Using a forklift, move material to proper location in inventory.

  13. Periodically perform inventory checks and sort concentrates and syrups.

  14. Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose, and resolve minor mechanical issues with equipment.

  15. Follow escalation protocol in a timely manner when troubleshooting efforts fail.  Work closely with maintenance when escalation to maintenance support is needed for a mechanical issue.

  16. Notify leads and supervisors of any major problems or questions, including Quality or Food Safety concerns.

  17. Communicate processing information to designated personnel on incoming shift.

  18. Routinely communicate with up/down stream operators to maximize line performance and ensure product integrity. 

  19. Ensure work area meets 5S guidelines.

  20. Perform any other job-related duties requested by the Supervisor or Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent education.

  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience, or possess an associate degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology

  • Basic knowledge of water treating process is required.

  • Able to read, write, and communicate in English.  Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Must exhibit ability and desire to work within a team but can work alone.

  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks accurately while working under pressure.

  • Ability to problem solve by applying common sense understanding and adjusting variables in standardized situations.

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment (i.e. HPLC, pH meter, balances, filtration apparatus).

  • Proficient with basic computer applications, including Excel, Microsoft Office, and Word.

  • Ability to recognize trends, situations and risks to product quality or food safety, and to timely and properly communicate those findings.

  • Requires good mathematical ability to perform quality related calculations, good analytical skills, and effective interpersonal communication skills to work constructively in a team environment.

  • Requires the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Previous experience in a  fast-paced production/manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Experience in HPLC or similar technology is a plus
