Gibraltar Reinsurance Company Ltd., ("Gibraltar Re" or "the Company") is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prudential International Insurance Holdings, Ltd ("PIIH"), which in turn is a direct wholly-owned subsidiary of Prudential Financial, Inc. ("PFI"), a United States of America ("U.S.") Corporation.  The Company was incorporated as a Bermuda exempted company on August 31, 2018 and licensed as a Class E insurer by the Bermuda Monetary Authority ("BMA"), under the Bermuda Insurance Act of 1978 (the "Act"), on October 12, 2018.  The company is primarily focused on reinsurance agreements with affiliated Prudential operations domiciled in Japan of Japanese yen ("JPY")-denominated business and certain new U.S. dollar (“USD”)-denominated business and has periodically reviewed limited external transactions.    The company currently has about $7.5 billion of assets and $0.5 billion of capital and surplus as of March 31, 2021.

Position Overview

Responsible for all actuarial aspects of ensuring that the planning, management, and control of actuarial operations are in accordance with the laws, standards, and policies of Gibraltar Re and the Bermuda Monetary Authority.   This executive will be responsible for pricing and executing new transactions in support of Gibraltar Re insurance businesses, management of the inforce business and working closely with a U.S. based actuarial services team of 4-5 staff providing valuation, projection, Solvency, and pricing activities.  This includes performing data analysis, underwriting, financial modeling, and projections reviewing actuarial reserve balances, governance reviews, and reinsurance contract negotiations.

This executive will report to Chief Financial Officer of Gibraltar Re.  

Location for this role is Bermuda.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Oversee pricing execution of all re-insurance transactions


  • Member of the Board of Directors of Gibraltar Re.


  • Support and review actuarial aspects of Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) actuarial valuation, US GAAP valuation and Bermuda Solvency Capital requirements (BSCR)


  • Face off with Bermuda Monetary  Authority and act a primary advocate for prudent oversight and regulation as it relates to the company’s business in Bermuda


  • Assist Board to develop and implement an appropriate control environment


  • Work with multiple internal teams including Finance, Investments, Audit, Risk Management, and actuarial teams of international and U.S. operations


  • Ensuring that the adequate capital resources are maintained in line with regulatory and other risk requirements


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree required


  • FSA, FIA or equivalent with a minimum of 10-15 years of strong actuarial experience (product development, pricing, valuation, financial reporting, financial modeling, etc.)


  • Superior technical skills and ability to understand complex quantitative concepts and models


  • Broad and detailed knowledge of various valuation methods for insurance companies, product pricing, modeling/projections and valuation including US GAAP


  • Experience and knowledge of major global insurance markets and international Life Insurance product experience is strongly preferred.


  • Dedication to completing work thoroughly and on time under time pressure


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


  • Extensive experience and success in collaboration, building relationships and influencing executive level leadership as well as securing broad organizational support across business partners, corporate functions, and external advisors.


  • Prior experience in Bermuda and familiarity with Bermuda BSCR and Economic Balance Sheet as it applies to life insurance operations is strongly preferred
