Position Description:
The Director/Vice President – Supply Chain and Procurement for the Specialty Metal Products (SMP) division is responsible for establishing and leading a high performing team in the creation and deployment of SMP’s strategy. The goal for the successful candidate will be to deliver meaningful year-on-year improvements in cost, working capital, and throughput on selected constraints across the division. In addition, leading and contributing to an injury-free workplace is a condition of employment within SMP.
As such, the Director/VP – Supply Chain and Procurement is a member of the Divisional Leadership Team and report to the VP/GM of SMP. Plant buyers and planners at all SMP locations will report to the Director/Vice President after initial onboarding and a successful transition.
The breadth of responsibility will include procurement for all five current sites of SMP, four in the US and one in the UK and includes direct responsibility for major raw material contracting and supplier management. An additional focus is to standardize best practices in contract language and execution. The total annual spend for SMP is approximately $100 Million.
This role encompasses strategy development, and high-level negotiations, and tactical execution within and throughout the operating plant sites.
The successful candidate will need to move seamlessly through all levels of the SMP and AMETEK organization and throughout the supplier network. Leadership, strategic thinking, collaboration, and the ability to create and analyze high volumes of data are fundamental traits required.
The Director/VP Supply Chain and Procurement will also work intimately with commercial teams to align material and commercial strategies to grow profitable revenue, reduce working capital and minimize risk to SMP.
Priority Accomplishments required
• Achieve an injury-free workplace
• Utilize strategic sourcing process to manage assigned categories for 5 locations by identifying stakeholders, defining and implementing a strategy that reduces cost, improves quality, delivery performance, and SMP’s competitive position.
• Consolidate spend to create leverage, purchasing trends and sourcing alternatives.
• Provide market intelligence, category price trends, identify category-specific best practices in procurement.
• Industry and commodity macro-economic trends and drivers (nickel, cobalt, oil, energy, natural gases).
• Implement Supply Chain and Procurement improvements that reduce WIP and finished goods inventory levels, reduce lead times and improve on time delivery performance year on year.
• Develop key performance measures for chosen suppliers and negotiate on multiple variables to award longer-term strategic contracts that result in significant cost reduction and improved service levels.
• Incorporate best practices in contract language and terms.
• Manage respective supplier relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution.

• Bachelors’ degree in engineering or business related field. 10 years of experience in sourcing function in management role, leading strategic sourcing activity of direct and indirect materials in multi plant cross functional environment. MBA is a plus
• Demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing process and tools and their application in restructuring indirect purchases of a multi plant manufacturing business. Track record of delivering significant cost reduction and service level improvements.
• Has achieved year on year improvements in working capital reductions and improved in time deliver directly accountable to planning and procurement activities.
• Proven product and market knowledge relative to one or more of the indirect categories (industrial services and supplies, MRO, facilities maintenance, energy and utilities, construction, etc.) and well versed in functional strategic sourcing practices. Experience with direct production material sourcing.
• Expertise in negotiation of long-term contracts with safeguards against identified risks.
• Demonstrated successful knowledge and implementation of lean practices
• Strong analytical problem-solving ability.
• Ability to self-motivate, multi-task and work independently as part of a geographically dispersed, virtual team
• Willing to travel 20-35%.
• Experience with shop floor purchasing, MRP/ERP systems and quality/continuous improvement initiatives.
