Job Description:

The Assistant Director works under the direction and supervision of the Associate Director of the Office of International Services (OIS) and has two overarching responsibilities. The first is to supervise team members and oversee and coordinate all related business processes, technical updates, and internal staff training. The second is to serve as an Immigration Specialist responsible for international student advising. Immigration advising encompasses F and J casework. Inherent functions include: (1) critically and efficiently managing internal business procedures, policies, and practices related to Student immigration casework and ensuring high professional standards for quality control and compliance are met; (2) serving as primary trainer within that area of specialization and oversight; (3) advising and assisting international students with regard to complex immigration regulations, as well as personal, social, and/or academic concerns; (4) representing OIS and/or functioning as liaison between OIS and other University schools/departments/-divisions, community organizations, and federal agencies (e.g., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Labor, etc.); (5) responding to inquiries regarding immigration matters; and (6) serving as Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer with authorization to access the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to be registered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State to carry out the responsibilities of the position. Bachelor's degree required in education, international affairs/education, higher education administration, business administration, public policy, legal studies, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 2-4 years' experience in international student advising required, preferably involving complex organizational environments, processes, and procedures. Familiarity with the University of Pittsburgh system preferred. Some understanding of scholar- and employee-related advising preferred. Expectation of excellent organizational, technical, and oral/written communication skills, problem-solving and customer service skills. Experience working with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and experience working with various immigration casework software programs and student database systems. Foreign language proficiency/fluency helpful. Study and/or work abroad a plus.Experience Essential to the Position Minimum of 2-4 years experience in the field of international education, preferably in the area of international student and scholar advising on complex immigration matters. Experience working with complex organizational processes and procedures. Excellent oral/written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer service skills.
