The Garmin Aviation Design team is looking for a User Experience / Visual Design Engineer for our office in Olathe, Kansas. Garmin Aviation's mission is to create innovative, best-in-class avionics products and services that reflect our passion to serve and enrich our customer's lives -- and our Garmin Aviation Design team is at the heart of it all! From the design of our cutting-edge flight decks, to the look-and-feel of our aviator watches, to defining the interfacing of our web and mobile applications, this team shapes and designs anything our pilots see and touches. A Garmin User Experience Designer has real world experience creating product solutions, designs, prototypes, icons, images, and other digital artwork based on Human-Center-Design / Design Thinking principles for web sites, applications, and flight decks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• May perform as a Service Designer who guides design direction for a various sized project
• Performs Pilot and User interviews and observational research and interprets research data to create viable solutions
• Creates interactive prototypes in Adobe XD and conducts user tests to improve and validate a design
• Remains current on user research methods and conducts effective research for generating and improving designs
• Maintain an exceptional eye for design detail adn deep appreciation for finding simple design representation for complex data
• Work with internal and external partners to define the user experience through Service Design principle
• Demonstrates full knowledge of UI design standards and procedures in performance of essential functions
• Demonstrates understanding of creating responsive web pages
• Responsible for maintaining consistent look for all Aviation products
• Stay abreast with new prototpying, presentation or computer graphics techniques and software
• Should demonstrate good communication skills when presenting ideas to various disciplines or customers
• Work collaboratively and communicate professionally with software engineering, user experience designers and other Garmin associates to achieve departmental and company objective/goals
• Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Design from an accridted college or university or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
