Ossid is seeking a talented Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for food and medical device packaging machinery. This position develops, designs, and implements new designs as well as provides product improvement support for existing designs. The engineer candidate is expected to be familiar and experienced with the concept- to- ship cycle in a manufacturing environment. The engineer candidate will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Job Essential Functions:


  • Interacts with Product Line Managers and engineering team to develop concepts for machinery components and functioning electro-mechanical sub-systems on packaging machinery.

  • Designs and documents assemblies and parts using 3D CAD.

  • Creates drawings, BOMs and final assembly documents using best engineering standard practices.

  • Analyzes and evaluates competitive products for best application use.

  • Participates in machinery assembly testing to identify and solve improvements needed to satisfy customer requirements.

  • Adheres to project scope and timeline requirements.

  • Applies all defined safety requirements.

  • Provides cost effective full solutions.

  • Reads and interprets technical drawings and schematics.

  • Processes ECNs and other engineering documents required to maintain databases and other support records.

  • Collaborate with fabrication & machining departments on optimization of parts to ensure manufacturability and the expected fit and function of parts as designed.

Job Requirements:


  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or combined relevant education and experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • 5+ years minimum machine design with electro-mechanical/ pneumatic components (packaging machinery preferred)

  • Self-motivated and adaptable to work independently or within a team

  • Comprehensive knowledge of machine and tooling design

  • Excellent computer skills, 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred in PDM environment) as well as Microsoft Office

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to coordinate and handle multiple projects

  • Positive attitude

  • Strong organizational and attention to detail orientation

Additional Preferred Abilities:


  • Well-disciplined engineering principles and standards

  • Simulation and material analysis experience

  • Desire to be hands on with machinery and equipment

  • GD&T experience

  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems and multi-level BOM structures
