Discovery and Translational Research group at Alnylam is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Scientist in the liver targets space. This individual will join a multidisciplinary group that identifies, validates, and develops drug candidates form an idea to clinic. The responsibilities will include, understanding of disease biology, leadership of the Lead development process, as well as identification and validation of novel drug targets.

Summary of Key Responsibilities


  • Carry out and oversee lead discovery activities for the selection of drug candidates for further development

    • Develop assays to monitor target engagement/pharmacodynamic responses
    • Work with multifunctional teams to shepherd a drug candidate through the lead selection and development process to the clinic

  • Design and execute proof of concept experiments in animal and in vitro disease models

    • Design studies, coordinate activities, and lead from the bench

  • Manage relationships with contract research organizations (CROs) and/or academic collaborators, including development of research plans and data analysis
  • Work closely with Target Validation and Alnylam's genomics/proteomics teams

    • Contribute to Alnylam's target identification efforts that are based on literature, academic collaborations, human genetics, genomics approaches, etc.

  • Mentor junior scientists
  • Collaborate and communicate results with key stakeholders throughout organization

Qualifications

  • PhD in Immunology (particularly, inflammation and innate immunity), Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Post doc or 1-2 years of experience preferred.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Individuals with expertise in liver biology, hematology/coagulation, innate immunity, metabolic disease, or rare genetic disorders are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Existing focus on disease biology and prior experience with mammalian disease models is also preferred.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multitask are a must.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, track record of working on teams, interest in learning new biology and passion for lab work.
