Summary:

The GIS Analyst will meet the demands of our customer by assisting in providing mapping and is responsible for providing support and maintenance to the Western Area Power Administration ( WAPA's) geographic information system (GIS) database.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following:


  • Assist in the development of WAPA's GIS data, the data source for WAPA's web mapping applications and other GIS products.
  • Prepares GIS map products to show right-of-ways, land use, environmental data, transmission line and substation locations as necessary.
  • Assist field personnel in implementing changes to relay locations and in preparing and completing enterprise data entry.
  • Assists client with issues such as data acquisition, data integrity, quality control and data distribution.
  • Collects data using Global Positioning System instruments followed by processing and entry of data using GIS/GPS software.
  • Occasional travel within WAPA's Service Area.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • None

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in working as a GIS Analyst or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably with linear entities.
  • Experience with ArcGIS 10.x, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS enterprise environment, version control, Python, MapServer, Global Mapper, GoogleEarth, COGO tools, Model Builder, and other applications preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Thorough understanding of GIS terms and concepts.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Able to handle multiple projects independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must foster a spirit of teamwork, cooperation, trust, and valuing diversity, in pursuing solutions to meet organizational goals, program plans and resolving issues.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screening test and federal background check.

Work Environment:

  • Office Environment. (Telework temporarily due to Covid-19).
