Mobile Computing Solutions (MCS) is a division of Trimble that creates mobile devices so workers in challenging environments can seamlessly connect the physical and digital worlds. MCS works with internal Trimble solution partners to provide mobile devices paired with their software, sensors, and services to deliver a complete workflow solution. We are currently looking for a talented Product Test Engineer to join our team of skilled engineers.

Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role will be to work as a member within the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) team. The UAT team undertakes a wide range of duties, related to testing and performance analysis of unreleased surveying controllers, data collectors, and associated products. The PTE will be a key member of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, and will significantly contribute to product design and development. Along with these development efforts, the PTE also helps to sustain currently released products.

You will report to the engineering team manager, working closely with development sites, suppliers, and customers around the world to design and deliver state-of-the-art mobile devices. Relying on your solid technical knowledge and a foundation in Trimble solutions, combined with a customer focused mentality, the PTE provides direct and immediate feedback on overall system designs, to ensure our products meet our customer's needs. The PTE will also apply unique customer perspectives to requirements for new products on behalf of the MCS division to ensure successful product introductions and market acceptance.

Primary Duties


  • Develops, executes and draws conclusions on test plans involving multiple hardware / firmware / software systems.


  • Testing includes both office and in field testing to closely replicate how users will interact with products and consume data


  • Execute market acceptance testing in concert with development teams to identify, isolate and report problems or design shortcomings from a customer perspective during product development and well before first customer ship


  • Manage development bug databases to help prioritize, test, and close bugs


  • Conduct ongoing systems testing to ensure proper functioning and up-to-date feature sets of existing and new products


  • Track down and reproduce elusive, intermittent system issues; reporting them immediately to the respective engineering team for corrective action


  • Content review of market requirements documents in specific areas of expertise


  • Provide technical advice and assistance to the marketing, support and sales organizations in the company, as well as to our distribution partners


  • Analyze and compare competitive products in related fields


  • Interface and train technical support, technical sales, and training teams prior to new product introductions


Your Background Includes:


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, surveying, or in a related geospatial science field


  • 3+ years test experience with mobile devices, and/or field experience in the surveying instrument industry


  • Customer Focus - making customer needs a primary focus of one's actions


  • Self-motivated and task oriented


  • Technical Knowledge - demonstrable skills or knowledge in mobile devices, land surveying, 3D scanning, and emerging technologies such as augmented reality


  • Strong technical writing skills


  • Experience with Jira, Word, Excel, Google Suite, or comparable products


It Would Be Nice To Have:


  • Knowledge of Trimble solution software, such as Trimble Access


  • Creative thinking - actively thinking outside the box to investigate or create inventive ways to implement new technological solutions for our customers


  • Continuous Learning -actively identifying new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities


  • Ability to mentor other UAT team members and exert influence in the broader organisation
