Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves as a group leader/point of contact for a day camp location or group. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

Prepares site daily for arrival of campers; cleans up site at the conclusion of the day.

Supervises camper sign-in and sign-out procedures, including PFCC through the TAP system for eligible campers.

Ensures that extended care leaders are made aware of any issues with campers.

Maintains control of health forms and related information on site and transports forms on all field trips.

Distributes and records information relating to distribution of medications to campers during program hours.

Leads and supervises a group of children in day camp setting.

Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.

Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

Attends staff meetings and trainings.

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to recordkeeping, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff; documents personal contact with parents of each child in group at least one time a week (either by telephone or in-person).

Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age; have completed at least one year of college coursework, and have at least one year of experience working with school-age children (camp experience preferred).

Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training must be completed within 30 days of hire date.
