The position of Controls Engineer oversees and performs upgrades, design, programming, documentation, testing, and implementation of process control system projects relating to production and automation; contributes hands-on to overall team performance and continuous improvement of production automation, in process data capture and inspections, throughput and control.

Key Responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Understand production equipment and control system requirements
  • Responsible for maintaining, upgrading, designing, documenting, implementing, validating, developing work instructions, and supporting automation and process control systems. This is to include hardware, software, and programming. To include outsourcing and oversight of outsourced projects as necessary.
  • Ability to manage projects and oversee high level outsourced integration efforts.
  • Design, build, and install PLC/HMI systems with SCADA integration.
  • Participate in and present design reviews as the contributing controls SME.
  • Proactive in developing new control strategies with state-of-the-art capabilities.
  • Evaluate control issues and devise appropriate corrective action, execute, and document those actions.
  • Implement and oversee data acquisition capabilities throughout the plant.
  • Organizes, controls, analyzes and effectively reports on data acquired from production processes.
  • Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up and workstation layout.
  • Analyzes process failures for root cause, recommends corrective actions, execute, and document those actions.
  • Knows, applies, and facilitates implementation of rules defined as part of Continuous Improvement of the plant and its team (5S, TPM, SMED, VSM, etc.)
  • Analyzes equipment's KPIs, defines and facilitates corrective action implementations.
  • Ensures good working condition of controls and automation equipment to guarantee product quality and lead-time committed to customers.
  • Contribute to the development of specifications for the procurement of new production equipment.
  • Train and coach production technicians on use of controls / automation interfaces and equipment.
  • Review and evaluate cost pertaining to make vs. buy decisions and new product development.
  • Compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Record test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Develop and validates operations and maintenance procedures as required to ensure reliability and availability of all controls equipment.

ADD JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) or Work Equivalent.
  • Field of Study: Science and Engineering (Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, Applied Sciences, Systems Integration) or Related.
  • 5-7 years experience working with manufacturing automation: designing, implementing, managing, troubleshooting, and managing such projects from concept through implementation, validation, and control.
  • Proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, Email and Internet Use, Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, Siemens and Allen Bradley programming
  • Manual dexterity and fine manipulation skills essential.
